Now, this is nice. For the start of 2023 TOO LOUD Records came out with this nice split release. This is a split record by FanKaz from Italy and Brazilian Out in Style. The record featured six songs, three from each band and it is an interesting one because it kind of shows and presents difference between two approaches to melodic punk, or call it melodic hardcore punk, skate punk anyway. FanKaz are more modern hardcore and technical skate punk, played tightly as well oiled machine with many song parts, stop and go, breakdowns and of course fast parts with melodic but also more hardcore screamed oriented vocals. On the other hand, Out in Style play that simple, no philosophy old school version of nineties influenced skate/melodic punk with some pop punk thrown in here and there and they remind me of all those great bands to whose music I grew up to. Lyrics are personal, but also hold some tone of melancholy and hope at least I see it that way. Both bands are great, but Out in Style are more to my taste. But only little. This one is worth your grabbing if you like melodic hardcore punk.

(review) Still No One – ‘This Is Fuel’
As I sad couple of times before, Italy has such great underground punk hardcore scene. Still No One are new to me, I never listened to them prior to this release. This band comes from Castelfranco Veneto, Italy and this album contains 12 songs. The name of the album is just that for me. Fuel for my old punk heart, melodic punk/skate punk anthems. Nothing complicated, nothing technical or prog, just old school melodic punk not dissimilar to No Use For A Name, of which they reminded me the most, but also all those early Epitaph/Fat Wreck releases from early nineties on which I grew up on. Music is mainly fast, energetic and melodic, vocals are beautiful, created backing vocals harmonies are superb and musicianship is tight, but it would have no means if the songs would suck, but here we talk about superb songwriting. Lyrics deal with personal themes, but also with situations we face in today’s worlds, thoughts about extinction, survival, hiding place where we can be ourselves, keeping the fight and flame burning among other themes. Although album as a whole is a hit for me, with so many great songs and fast melodies, my personal highlights and favorites would be ‘Welcome To Extinction’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Be A Punk’ and also ‘Until The Day’.
Have a listen if you love your punk rock done this way, you will not regret it.
(review) Buscemi’s Eyes – Is It Bad?
Italy has such great and vast underground and extreme music scene and I really enjoy discovering new bands that I learn about and have a listen. Band inspired obviously by actor Steve Buscemi, called Buscemi’s Eyes released this four song e.p. Song called Dirty Talking is fast and in your face old school hardcore punk reminding me a bit of Minor Threat and similar bands, having that hardcore energy, melody and vibe that I still love after all these years. Band continues in more fast punk rock vein with Ghost World and sounding almost rock n roll song in some parts delivering punch in your face, short and sweet. Fast mayhem continues with another banger, my favorite Meat Grinder and it just reminded me how I would like to see this band live, deliver all that awesome hardcore energy. The title song finishes the e.p. as it started, melodic, aggressive and superb with some samples of master Buscemi himself as I understand hehe.
