(review) Wake The Dead-Still Burning

Cover

Wake The Dead are coming from Marseille, France and this is their brand new record. The new record contains eight songs of modern brutal, yet melodic hardcore with lots of catchy riffs, anguished shouted nice vocals and lots of backing vocals singalong parts just made for fist pumping in the air and singing at the concerts. If I must compare the music of these guys to some band I have listened lately, it would be Croatian band Shin who play similar music to Wake The Dead. The lyrics of the songs are talking about hope, surviving, inner demons, love, friendship and I can easily relate to them, because they are not some coded messages in slowed down songs hehe if you know what I mean. The songs I recommend as being somehow highlights for me are: Giving Up, All My Flames, Lone Wolf. Excellent album.

(record review)THE SOBERS-The Sobers IV

I must admit that I have never heard of The Sobers prior to this record, but now I am so happy that I did after I listened and reviewed their new record for our zine.

FRONT

The Sobers are punkrock band from Marseille, France and their new record contains 13 songs. I was blown away at the start of the album how greasy and dirty it sounds and how easily it evolves into beautiful melody in the first song D.L.D. So, the music these guys play is dirty, but still melodic punk with mainly personal, but also good and smart lyrics. I would definitely love to hear how this material sounds live. Damn! Vocals are harsher sung, but still enough melodic and appealing, backing and harmony vocals are awesome too, so all of you who read my reviews know how important are the vocals for me in such bands. There are some songs that were more outstanding for me, those being: Shitty Halo, It Could Have Been A Better Day, Blood Feud. This is a great album for the fans of rawer, yet melodic punkrock.

(record review)THE DAWN-TWWKIG

The Dawn is a hardcore band from Marseille, France and I am happy I was able to listen and review their record for this zine.

The album contains 9 songs of chaotic mayhem. The Dawn play aggressive, nervous, noisy hardcore that borders with sludge and doom influences and screaming harsh vocals. But, there are also grindcore blastbeat parts in the song structures and to add it all, weird keyboard melodies in the background, to make this band more interesting. What makes me more happy, is obvious Church of  Satan influence in many songs, especially Walpurgisnacht with Nine Satanic Statements thrown in. The lyrics are as I understood nihilistic and apocalyptic as the music this band plays. This is not for the fans of happy merry go round melodic hardcore. These guys will twist your mind with their music and then laugh about it later! I really love this record, it shows the variety and originality that can still be achieved on hardcore scene besides all those generic clone bands that are coming out with their records every day!
