(review) Mind Imperium – Nemesis (Wormholedeath)

Wow! That is only thing I can say after listening to this sophomore opus of French trio called Mind Imperium. There are eight songs on this one, first being kind of synth atmospheric eerie intro to the maelstorm that follows afterwards. Mind Imperium play a mixture of melodic doom metal, atmospheric death metal with some post metal and thrash metal influences in guitar riffs and song structures. Vocals are growling and anguished sounding, but you can understand what they are singing about and that is always a plus in my eyes. Lyrics are so superb, personal and speak about depression, hopelessness, anger, resentment, death and being able to survive through the day, also loss. Besides growling, there are clean melodic vocal lines, spoken words and I love how all that fit perfectly in the picture. I am so glad that underground provides the way to have a listen to bands like this one. Superb. My personal favorites: Screaming out your name, Burning Embers.

Promo picture by Al Rinald

Swedish Gothenburg-based melodic death metal band Sailor Hunter is set to release their new self titled EP on May 19th 2022 via Finnish record label Inverse Records. The first single Scarred is released today and music video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/oLK7PNp-zCw

Singer Stellan Berndtsson comments the single:
“To see what’s left of a person’s body after the end in the most violent way. When the remains are put in a black trash bag and to relive it in your dreams forever. That’s your mind that is scarred.

You notice on the music video even if we´re just playing as a band, it actually portrays what you see on the color grading and the fast movements or “happenings” are about when the mind get scarred . It’s a kind of a shadow or mark that remains in your mind forever after being shocked about something that ended violently.”

(review) Nuclear Storm – Tales From The Depth

I love the underground and how it sometimes gives you great music on a bad day. I was having really a bad day, hard time and then I discovered Nuclear Storm from Bavaria, Germany. These guys have been in the scene since 2004, released two full lengths and now they are back with a new third opus, first one in seven years. This album contains just what I needed, a fine mixture of aggression of death metal and melody and melancholy of black metal. Songs also have some gothic metal influences like fantastic The Empire, my personal favorite of nine songs this opus has. This song is a perfect blast beat aggression of black metal, epic melody and piano backed romanticism of gothic, reminding me why I love this genre of metal so much. Vocals are super, ranging from death metal growl singing, black metal screams and rough but beautiful melodic clean vocals, like in awesome The Crew. Judging by songs, this album is kind of concept story of hunting whales, cursed ships, endless roaming and never finding a way home. This is a discovery and my recommendation for fans of this music!
