(review) Halysis-Cerulean

Halysis are hailing from Finland, Lahti to be precise and were formed in 2015. This is their debut album and it is a tour de force in aggression and melody.

There are 11 songs on this record with Echoes being kind of intro instrumental like calm before the storm. The music of Halysis is a mixture of melodic death metal, thrash metal, melodic metalcore and power metal. Nice, eh? That means screaming and shouted vocals which quickly transform into clean and beautifully sung voice and fit the atmosphere of the songs perfectly. Also, metalcore groove meets fast thrash metal drumming, aggression fits perfectly into melodic and more catchy guitar hooks and choruses and I am a sucker for such things and love it when band mixes screams into clean and vice versa. Pack it into nice song structures and you get total victory. This is a strong debut record. Recommended songs: Arbiter, Celestial Vortex.

Nice to see NAMET from Zagreb, Croatia are back with their brand new release. They had some personal problems, I was afraid that they will not be able to play anymore, but fortunately I was wrong. The new record is recorded by Filip from Studio Depth and it is a powerful tour de force. 8 songs with lyrics in Croatian language show all the anger and much needed rage in todays shitty world. The music of Namet is a mixture of hardcore punk, but with crust punk and darkened melodic death metal almost Gothenburg style melodeath riffs thrown here and there in the song structures, sometimes bordering with old school Swedish style of death metal and d-beat. The vocals are angry, screaming yet you can understand what is being sung so that is another plus. Recommended songs: Gnjev, Neka Gori, Pokvaren Do Srži. Great album by great band, so go support your scene.

(record review)URSKOG-“Evig Vinter”(Ididit)

From the northern Swedish marshes comes Urskog, and this is their new release and I listened to it and reviewed it for this webzine.

This band was started in 2013.as the brainchild of one Anders Persson who is the creator of all music. The record contains two songs. The music of Urskog is some sort of hybrid patchwork of melodic death metal, thrash metal and sludge. This is dark stuff but also a lot of catchy melodies in the guitar structures of the songs give some hope to the listener that things are not all that darkened. The lyrics to the both songs are in English, so I can´t understand what is being sung but the infosheet says that the lyrics deal with man corrupting nature and how the nature will take it´s revenge one day upon humanity. This is a decent release and I am sorry that this is a one man band, because I would love to hear this material being played live.
