Australian underground scene never ceases to amaze me, so NABERUS was a prime choice with their new album on Eclipse Records. I was lucky to give it a listen and review it for this webzine.

Hailing from Melbourne, this five piece band plays modern metal, meaning a mix of thrash metal, melodic death metal and metalcore. Usually I am very sceptical and very reserved towards metalcore bands because I don´t like their style of music very much. Naberus are fortunately different than those generic deathcore and metalcore bands. They have a lot of melodic guitar hooks in the song structures making their songs more anthemic and more energetic. Also, the clever use of harsh and clean melodic vocals makes this record very fluent and not boring. The guys have their hearts in the right places, their lyrics being a fine tuned mix between political and personal thematics. The only thing I didn´t like on this record are the vocals. In most of the songs they reminded me too much of James Hetfield and I never liked his voice for some reason. For me, the personal highlights of this album are definitely “Hollow”, “I disappear” and “The End”. Nice album.
