(record review)This Obsession-“A confrontational effort”

This Obsession are from Chicago, Illinois, and I am really glad that I discovered this band and this album and was able to listen to and review it for this zine.

cover

The album contains 10 songs of excellent melodic punk, garnished with faster, hardcore punk influences and a lot of beautiful pop punk melody. I loved every minute of the album, because the songs are so catchy, melodic and at the same time energetic that I haven´t heard such great band for a long time. Vocally, the main vocals are a bit rougher but melodic voice, and the backing vocals and harmonies are just awesome. I caught myself humming many tunes from this album long after I finished listening. From the fast opener “Arm in arm” with one of the most beautiful choruses I have ever heard, with anthems as “Punk ass kid” or “Bottoms up” being my favorites. It is fascinating that as I listen to this album, every time I discover some new song and something new that I haven´t heard before. This is for sure one of the best melodic punk bands that came out this year until now.

(record review)PENNYWISE-“Never gonna die”(Epitaph Records)

Epitaph Records is back with mighty punk records. Last year´s Propagandhi record still resonates in my ears and now the long wait is over, here is the new Pennywise album! I loved every second of this album and now read in this zine the review and find out why!

2018 - Never Gonna Die

This record contains 14 new songs, some of which we already heard as singles before the record hit this world with a bang. The title track is by far one of the best Penny songs that I have heard since “Full Circle” which was for me the best Pennywise record ever! The energy of the title track combined with fast pace and Jim´s singing topped with great melody just rules. “Keep moving on” is an anthem about having strength and survive the odds and I just wanted to scream with energy while listening to this little fucker. “Live while you can” most of us know and have already heard as a lyric video single prior to the release of the record. This is by far also one of the best Pennywise songs ever and the absolute highlight of this record. One of those songs you just wished you wrote. “We set fire” is the song with fast pace ready to set the fires of the rebellion in us the listeners. I love the production of the record and the energy I feel while listening and it always makes my day as I listened it already dozen times. “She said” is also one of the singles from the record and this song is very special to me because of the lyrics about passing away of someone you care about which happened to me too many times. Another highlight of the record for me is definitely “Can´t be ignored”, the song I have on repeat almost twenty times in a row! “All the ways u can die” is “Date with destiny” for the 21st century. You will notice that I didn´t mention all of the songs and that I did intentionally because you MUST get this album and listen everything and I just don´t want to spoil some gems. Lyrically strong, musically superb, this record is one of the strongest, if not THE strongest record of the year!

(record review)KRANG-“Singalong”(Bird Attack Records/Melodic Punk Style)

Krang are melodic hardcore punk band from Czech Republic and now is the time to review their awesome new album, so lets see whats this one all about.

krangdoom

The band was formed in 2014.and this is their second full length album that came out on Bird Attack Records and Melodic Punk Style. The album contains 10 awesome tracks of melodic hardcore skatepunk plus one cover of The Beatles. The lyrics are in English language and they cross various themes like violent dancing at gigs, killing for politics, slave workers, over some more lighter and funnier themes. I really loved to listen this album. Why? Because it deals with melodic hardcore punk like it was played in the 90-ies. Straightforward, in your face, energetic and melodic. The vocals are great, not cheesy but rough, and at the same time nice melodic singing. For me, the backing vocals are important part of bands and records like these, these guys deliver excellent harmonies which adds drama to the music. One more plus is engaged lyrics and Krang really deliver the message within their music and I loved every bit of it. This is for sure one of the candidates for album of the month. Top songs:”Life is like a Mortal Kombat”, “King of a dance floor”, “Fuck fast fashion”.
