Antillectual cover the classic Police song!

ANTILLECTUAL are famous for punkrock, political statements and from now on also for coversongs.

The trio from the Netherlands is starting a mini-coversong-series with their first release – the Police classic „Truth Hits Everybody“.
Although the trio keeps close to the original, it has become a completely independent and powerful version. Of course, a little bit faster and a little bit harder – pure ANTILLECTUAL-style.

Taking their own slogan “stealing riffs and borrowing song titles” to the next level Antillectual recorded 4 covers of “the roots of their roots”. The band will release covers sporadically, among their original work, as episodes of their singles series. In guitarist Willem’s words:

“We wanted to experiment and record other people’s music. Most of the bands we grew up on are still around or reunited, but we didn’t feel like covering bands that are still active. It was much more interesting to go back one more generation and find early punk songs with a modern melodic vibe to them. Truth Hits Everybody was the first song that came to mind. From the first time I heard it, it felt like something that would match with our own style very well. Not surprisingly the song appeared to be in a key we use a lot ourselves.

The video is shot in Antillectual’s hometown Nijmegen by Ruben Smulders, inspired by the music video for So Lonely, also from The Police’s debut album Outlandos d’Amour from 1978. That album was also the inspiration for the artwork of the single, created by Andy Dahlström (Satanic Surfers’ bass player). The audio is recorded by the band’s sound tech, Emiel Thoonen. Mixing and hammond are done by Menno Bakker who also recorded Antillectual’s debut album Silencing Civilization and many legendary Dutch punk bands such as Undeclinable Ambuscade, NRA and Seein’ Red. Carl Saff (Iron Chic, Touché Amore, Small Brown Bike) did the mastering of the track.

Resolve from France released new single Pendulum, listen it here!

XsZ7M02N

France based quartet has been eager to show their peer that they won’t settle for anything but greatness. Resolve offered us in the end of 2018 a single “Carmela” that brought all the attention of the fans of melodic hardcore fans. Their strong work ethic and attention to details allowed them to open shows for Architects, Every Time I Die, While She Sleeps to name a few, all of that within the first few months of the band’s stammering career.

Thanks to a strong lead-up campaign, a couple of singles released via the popular YouTube channel Dreambound, and various official Spotify playlists, their debut 6 tracks EP ‘Rêverie’, released in October 2017 reached peak position in the French Itunes Metal Charts and #5 in the Rock Charts. The four boys spent the rest of their first year as a band touring their home country as well as Europe and the UK, and unveiled music videos one after the other, fulfilling their initial plan of releasing a fully watchable record.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve had this question stuck in our heads: what’s the best possible comeback for a young and unestablished band after three months of almost complete silence?
Definitely not by releasing your longest running song yet, which also happens to include a lengthy atmospheric break and a « drum solo-ish » ending? And yet, as I’m writing this a few days before unveiling ‘Pendulum’ to the world, I don’t think we’ve been prouder of a song yet. It includes lots of elements that were already used sporadically on our earlier works: synths, strings, vocoders, none of those are really new to our music, but are delivered in a much more noticeable and mature way this time around. It’s also worth mentioning that the overall production, while still completely done by the three of us in our own recording studio, is a step-up from our previous releases for sure.

Lyrics-wise, I think this is the most honest to ourselves we’ve ever been. Letting go of all the self-doubt that inevitably stems from giving so much of yourself to your art was a cathartic process for sure. That’s also the reason why we chose to shot our most minimalist video yet to accompany the song, as a way to invite the listener to delve into the various layers of instrumentation and focus on lyrical delivery.

(record review)ADRENALIZED-Operation Exodus(La Agonia De Vivir Records)

Adrenalized never cease to amaze me. I listened and reviewed their brand new record out on La Agonia De Vivir Records for our zine.

cover

This Basque country based hardcore band amazed me since I first heard their music. Their ferocious, super fast, yet melodic technical hardcore is just awesome. When they announced their new album with couple of singles they released from this forthcoming album, I knew I was into for something great.

The record contains 12 songs, mainly super fast and energetic with technical skills set on super high level played with matchless exact and superb musicianship. There are a lot of metalic influences in the music of Adrenalized but they took somehow the best influences from both worlds. Sensibility and melody of punkrock and ferociousness and wilderness of metal waters. The lyrics are in English except one song and I love about this band that they have firm political stance and attitude often lacking in the modern punk hardcore scene. This album is our heartily and firm recommendation to all the fans of fast charged, yet melodic and singalong anthemic punk hardcore. My favorites: Engraved In Stone, Revenge.
