(review) Tears of a fallen Hero – ‘Save us from ourselves’

Tears of a fallen Hero are proof that Sweden has strong punk rock scene besides great metal bands. With Satanic Surfers, No Fun At All, Millencolin and many other coming to mind, I haven’t listened to Tears of a fallen Hero up to no. These guys are hailing from Gothenburg, home of so many great bands I love, and the idea for band and formation grew in 2017 and this is the band’s debut album out now. This one contains eleven songs of emotional punk with some hardcore and post punk, post hardcore influences. The music is basically melodic punk with excellent vocals which can soar high and low, sounding almost otherworldly and ethereal in many songs. The music is mid tempo with many changes and parts, from slowing down to more uptight punk, guitar lines are great along with synth atmospheric parts especially in ‘Further than i can’, one of the greatest songs on this record in my opinion. Lyrics are personal but smartly written, pure poetry that you can relate to in more than one way. There are also some spacy parts in guitar work, like post punk influenced songwriting and riffing, but remaining enough in punk waters to satisfy your black and red punk rock heart. Songs that I must also mention as being my favorites are ‘My head is my worst enemy’ and ‘Will i ever change’. Conclusion? One more excellent record from Sweden.

(review) Still No One – ‘This Is Fuel’

As I sad couple of times before, Italy has such great underground punk hardcore scene. Still No One are new to me, I never listened to them prior to this release. This band comes from Castelfranco Veneto, Italy and this album contains 12 songs. The name of the album is just that for me. Fuel for my old punk heart, melodic punk/skate punk anthems. Nothing complicated, nothing technical or prog, just old school melodic punk not dissimilar to No Use For A Name, of which they reminded me the most, but also all those early Epitaph/Fat Wreck releases from early nineties on which I grew up on. Music is mainly fast, energetic and melodic, vocals are beautiful, created backing vocals harmonies are superb and musicianship is tight, but it would have no means if the songs would suck, but here we talk about superb songwriting. Lyrics deal with personal themes, but also with situations we face in today’s worlds, thoughts about extinction, survival, hiding place where we can be ourselves, keeping the fight and flame burning among other themes. Although album as a whole is a hit for me, with so many great songs and fast melodies, my personal highlights and favorites would be ‘Welcome To Extinction’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Be A Punk’ and also ‘Until The Day’.

Have a listen if you love your punk rock done this way, you will not regret it.

(review) DARKO – Sparkle

Having grown up in the nineties, I never dug this newer technical skate punk and melodic hardcore with so many metallic influences, progressive and technical song parts, but UK veterans DARKO were one of the first bands that made me listen to more of the genre and started to love it. Well, this one has been out for couple of months but, no matter UK melodic technical hardcore veterans deliver four songs on this one. What to say? I have a feeling, after this record finished, like I listened to one epic song and by that I don’t mean it like it is a bad thing. From long epic The Ladder, to gentle atmospheric opening of Quite this is a lesson in technical, fast yet mathematically tightly played hardcore punk. New vocalist only added more energy to the band and brought fresh force to this well oiled machine. I recommend you to go check out one of the Darko’s shows if you are near, they will melt your face off with well played epic melodic hardcore/technical skate punk.
