(review) Sunset Radio – Thank you, Goodbye!

Melodic pop punks from Ravenna, Italy, namely Sunset Radio are in no way strangers to the pages of this zine. This is their brand new album and kind of end of an era due to line-up change and new singer stepping in the scene. This one contains 9 songs, which vary from more gentle pop oriented Italian language Domenica, across more Ghosts Cigarettes anthem of melodic punk rock which I listened couple of times in a row. Gold and Diamonds is more modern pop punk song yet Sunset Radio also hold one leg firmly in nineties melodic punk style, so they give a smart mixture of old and newer school of melodic punk. Singer reminds me at times of Millencolin’s singer. One of my personal favorites on this one is It Again, up tempo punk rock song with nothing new or special, just heartfelt melody and lyrics. One other song I must mention is Melody, being just the way I wanted if I were to write it hehe. Also, Pride and Old Days are the ones you should lean your ears to. Great album by this Italian pop punks.

(review) Edward in Venice – Beyond (LOSTDOG Records)

Edward in Venice are from Pesaro, Italy and this is their fifth album with a brand new line-up. This one offers ten songs. I remember seeing these guys play Punk Rock Holiday, I think it was back in 2016. The music on this album can be described as a mixture of melodic hardcore and post punk, especially in some guitar work, especially in song called Silver Drops. The lyrics are great, emotional and personal, yet something that you can relate to a lot. Vocals are not mellow, they are rough where needs to be rough yet at the same time retaining what it needs in melody. The continuing line that goes like silver line through this album is melancholy and kind of sadness, yet also hope and lust for making yourself better and pick yourself up when you are down. Other personal favorites that I must mention are Melancholy, Three Years and Gold Skin.

Good album for fans of melodic hardcore emo.

Punk rockers Topsy Turvy’s have just shared a third single from their new album due January 13th on Krod Records.

The idea that every day is worth living is hard to grasp when the days are really crappy. There is good to be learned from everything, but it’s often easier and more comforting to dwell on the bad.

If sometimes you need a little push to get the sun back out, then Topsy Turvy’s new single may be the background vibe for all the perfect days to come!
It’s the third single from their new album It Can’t Be Easy which will be released digitally on January 13, 2023.

About the band

TOPSY TURVY’S is a melodic punk rock band, with double male and female vocals, born in 2008 in Poitiers (France).

Their influences range from the melodic hardcore of the 90’s, to the more modern indie punk, through the emo wave of the late 90’s to early 2000’s. Their sound is full of pop melodies, with melancholic sounds sometimes, and a communicative energy most of the time.

After more than 300 concerts in Europe and around the world (26 countries) and the release of 3 albums (EPs) and 3 splits on many independent labels of the punk rock scene (in Europe, Japan & the United States), they continue to tour and share their music wherever they can, while developing a DIY approach and a political questioning around their music practice.
