(review) Pulley – The Golden Life (SBÄM Records, Thousand Island Records)

I witnessed Pulley playing their set live back in 2019 at Punk Rock Holiday when they headlined Monday and it was a disaster, at least in my opinion. Singer Scott Radinsky was just too drunk and all around him every song just fell apart, although music was not so bad, he spoiled everything for me, when I wanted to see one of the bands I so love since the nineties and their Epitaph releases. Anyway, this is their first full length album with new material after a long time and these twelve songs are a treat for every nineties skate/melodic punk fan out there. Songs are written great, Scott´s vocals sound better than ever along with backing vocal harmonies and superb melodies. In all, this album somehow evokes an atmosphere and vibe of melancholy and mixture of happiness and sadness at the same time. Maybe it is only me, maybe I remember all of the times and people that are gone now, maybe something else. But, it is a good record to listen to, my personal favorites are Wake Up, Sad Song, Golden Life. Just can´t wait to hear the new material live. Hope their set will be better next time I see them play live.

(review) Holly Would Surrender – End Game (SBÄM Records)

Holly Would Surrender are from Hamburg, Germany and this is their new e.p. out with SBÄM Records and I am so glad that I found out this band with this new release. This one contains ten songs of energetic melodic pop punk, not unlike nineties old school legends, I would compare it to Face To Face or Bracket if I had to compare their music to some bands. That means uplifting and positive sweet melodic songs, beautiful choruses, heartfelt emotional lyrics with dose of humor and fun. My personal favorites are Doing Fine and Never Surrender, but also Throw It Away. Songs are faster but not your fast hardcore skatepunk, rather punk rock uplifting tempo, musicianship is great and vocals and backing vocal harmonies are just perfect to make your heart flutter and your face lit up with joy and smiling when you are having a bad day and you just want some music to cheer you up and bring back hope. Nice one, indeed.

Melodic punks Quitters released single and video ‘Atacama Desert(ALMA)’!

French punk-rockers Quitters are back with a brand new track and video: Atacama Desert (Alma).

A classic punk rock gem with lyrics in both French and English, Atacama Desert (Alma) is about a dream-like experience which happened to the band’s singer and songwriter during a trip to Chile’s Atacama Desert. In awe of this infinite beauty, he found himself – Don’t ask us how, don’t ask us why” – approaching Alma, one of the world’s biggest and most protected astronomical observation bases in a camper van. After being gently kicked out, they were robbed and lost any proof of any of this ever happening.

Later, he wrote a song about this absurd experience and dreamy memory, the unexpected joys of travels and the infinite beauty of this particular landscape.

The single is taken from Quitters’ upcoming album “Captain Are We Thinking ?” set to be released on 23rd September, 2022.

About the band:

Quitters is a French punk rock band from Montpellier. The band was formed in 2015 and has been touring with the sole purpose of playing as much as possible. Carried by a pure punk rock energy, the texts of the band depict with cynicism and not without humor a world at the end of breath.

Since then, the band has collaborated with various labels (Inhumano, Bad Mood Asso, Krod Records), sweated out more than 150 concert halls around the world and released two EPs and an album, Good Night Memories. For Quitters, 2022 marks the big comeback with the release of their second album Captain Are We Thinking.Inspired by The Flatliners, Off With Their Heads or Pup, Quitters does not plagiarize: if the punk rock universe and the DIY culture infuse their music, this one is a vehicle for a creativity, a vision of the world and a sonic patte which are their own.
