(news – new video) Dead Serious welcomes THE YEAR – new video ‘Overthinker’ out now!

It’s with great pleasure to announce that THE YEAR signed with DEAD SERIOUS Recordings. We can’t wait to show you the next moves! Expect some new killer tunes very soon! Meanwhile listen to the new single OVERTHINKER on Spotify or all other digital outlets.

The Year (based in Lisbon, Portugal) is a band that creates a eclectic blend of genres to produce a sound that is both timeless and cutting-edge. Their music is characterized by dynamic arrangements, soaring vocals, and simple instrumentation that evokes vivid musical emotions. With each song, The Year explores themes of growth, change, and self-discovery, creating a sonic journey that is both introspective and universal.

A band made up of a hardened music outfit who have not only worked together but toured many countries in previous years. They may have only officially got together in the Summer of 2012 but all the systems and processes were in place way before then! The self titled debut album received very positive reviews from across Europe. The Year have been the support act for bands such as Architects, More Than a Thousand, Comeback Kid, Devil In Me, Desolated, Deez Nuts, Your Demise, Martyr De led and many others.

(new single) No Drop For Us released new single ‘Delirios’!

This new single deals with the theme of insomnia. There are feelings that begin to prevent the protagonist from resting, which can be a gateway to major problems or increase those that have been dragging. Both compositionally and thematically, it tries to convey the strong anxiety that can produce to face this sleep disorder. The Iris has been chosen for the art of this theme because this flower has sedative properties that can facilitate the conciliation of sleep. The color purple has been chosen for the visual art of this theme as it tends to represent or induce a state of relaxation.
‘Antesis’ is the latest work of the band. A conceptual EP that addresses one of the most important taboo topics in today’s society, mental health. The work is composed of 6 tracks. In each one of them, a hypothetical situation is shown in the different phases that a person can suffer in his fall towards depression. Anthesis, in botany, means the development of flowers from birth to withering. A concept that ideally represents the theme of the EP creating a parallelism. In addition, we wanted to find a relationship between art and theme, where each of the themes have a certain color and a figure that helps to emphasize the message that each song wants to express. The figures make reference to different plants to give meaning to the name of the EP. This album has been produced by No Drop For Us and recorded, mixed and mastered at Baboon records, Albacete, studio where bands like Angelus Apatrida have trusted for the recording of their new album.

(review) Riptides – ‘Riptides’ EP

Riptides are hailing from Italy and this is their first EP out now. This one contains four songs. The music of Riptides is so much more and more complicated than it could be explained in one sentence. This is basically progressive death metal. But here is also metalcore, even hardcore roots in the skeletons of songs themselves. Also, here is djent and progressive metal thrown into above all smart songwriting throughout the EP. Songs are not too long, like it often is a case with similar styled bands, quite the contrary. Songs are not long and interesting every second of listening. I am usually not an avid fan of such style of extreme music, but I really enjoyed every single second of this one. I love the interplay between brutal death metal growling and clean singing, with some really eerie melodies like in excellent ‘The Deepest Ocean’. The other of four songs that is my personal favorite is ‘Paranoia’ which struck me like a heavy hitter. This one is heavy, melodic and progressive. Go listen!
