(review) Fallstar – Sunbreather (Facedown Records)

663433

Fallstar are coming from Portland and they have a new record with Facedown Records. This record offers 11 songs of interesting and different modern approach to hardcore. The traditionalist in me, grown up in the nineties hardcore scene with nod to youth crew hardcore bands of eighties would discard this record upon first listening. But, hey, I am 43 years old now and take things differently in music.

Fallstar have a pretty original approach to songwriting, cleverly mixing hardcore punk, post hardcore, spacy dreamy vibes, electronics, pop punk and even metalcore in some song parts making one original and soundscape which will take you somewhere to some different dimension while listening to this record. My personal favorites are Cloud Chamber, Waiting and the title song. If you love your hardcore done a bit differently, with lots of melody and intensity at the same time, this record is the right one for you. Do not be scared to check out different things within hardcore scene, diversity makes us strong, we are a small scene in the beginning so there is no need for elitism and quarrels. Support the cause worldwide.

(review) Shellz-No More Love Songs(Dead Serious Recordings)

Shellz are post hardcore or modern hardcore if you like it, from Germany. This ten songs are done in a best quality way of modern hardcore with punkrock, hardcore and metalcore influences, coupled with some electronics background to couple the atmosphere of the songs. This nothing new or revolutionary, but it is done in a quality and way to appeal me as a music fan, and all of you who read this zine know that I am usually not avid fan of modern style of hardcore. The vocals in the songs vary from screaming and shouted to nice beautiful pop punk clean vocals and I am sucker for such bands whenever I hear one of those. Anyway, my favorite songs on this record are Life Of A Sheep, That˙s What I Need, the title songs. Decent one indeed!

The idea of creating a band took place in Kalamata, Greece early in 2012.

The debut album of the band is named “Deep Breath” and has been recorded in Sound Emporium Studios, Nashville TN. It is co-produced, mixed and engineered by Toby Wright in November 2014 and is mastered by Andrew Mendelson. It was released in the Fall of 2015 by Pavement Entertainment .

By early 2018, the decision about the 2nd album was made and this time the band travelled to Gothenburg, Sweden at Fredman Studios. This time, Fredrik Nordstrom (Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, In Flames) would be the producer of the album. The band’s second album is called “Indigo” and was self-released in March of 2019. Currently, the band is looking for opportunities to promote “Indigo” worldwide.
