(record review)SAME AS YOU-Coffee and pills/The lies we told(PCT musique)

Same As You are relatively young band from Montreal, Canada and they recently joined forces with PCT musique to release both of their ep-s. I listened and reviewed both of the records for our zine.

cover

Every record contains 4 songs, so 8 in total. The music this band plays is melodic mid tempo energetic punkrock with interesting deeper vocals which really got into my ears and I love the vocals of this band. The melodies of the songs are awesome, I love the nostalgia that Seven Years somehow brought up in me, it almost reminds me of punkrock version of a doowop song and all the readers of this zine know how much I love doowop hehe. The songs have enough personality, enough energy and charm that not one of them gets boring while listening. I love the anthemic, emotional chorus of Promise Me that takes me back to the day of my punkrock youth.

cover

The Lies we told record is a bit more rawer sounding, but still shows all the force this band provides with their melodies and song structures. I love the title track in all its melodic but enough raw punkrock splendour.

(record review)DOWN MEMORY LANE-Release(Thousand Islands Records)

Down Memory Lane are melodic hardcore punk from Montreal, Canada, and they just released their new record through mighty Thousand Islands Records, so it was about time for me to listen and review it for this zine.

DownMemoryLane-Release_Cover

These guys were formed in 2015.in the suburbs of Montreal with a goal to play the 90-ies melodic punk and since then they released three e.p.-s sung in different languages. This new record contains 6 songs of great, fast and 90-ies styled melodic hardcore skatepunk. One of the best songs on this record is funny titled A Song About This Song, being fast, anthemic, making you pump up your fist in the air and sing at the top of your lungs. The other songs that are top of this record in my opinion are Xenophobic and Catch And Release. The vocals on records such as this are very important to me, so Down Memory Lane have great singer and nicely done backing and harmonic vocals. This record again shows the strength and multitude of Canadian punk scene making it one of my favorite scenes in the world.

(record review)ARISING FROM-Contemplating the unknown(Thousand Islands Records)

Thousand Islands Records never ceases to amaze me with the bands they release and this time I listened and reviewed the new Arising From e.p. so read the review.

Cover ep

This Montreal punkrockers already released one e.p. and the music these guys play is strongly inspired by the 90-ies melodic punkrock, mostly all the Californian punkrock bands you know so well, but the guys managed to stay fresh and retain a certain dose of originality not to sound like anyone˙s clone. The record contains 5 songs and I personally liked Return to sender the most. It is totally melodic, ultra harmonic in your face punkrock anthem and I enjoyed it a couple of times in a row. There are also some pop punk influences on this album like for example in Your beliefs or One life. The lyrics are personal as I understand and I love them, they pass just perfect with the song structures. This is an awesome e.p. and one more proof of the beauty, versatility and the talent of the Canadian punkrock scene.
