Vivienne are hailing from Mantova, Italy and this is their new record. The title of the record means ghosts in Japanese mythology and those are souls of the deceased who can not leave this earth and join their ancestors due to sudden death or strong emotions. This record has strange mystical vibe while listening. There are six songs on this record, with lyrics in Italian language, I don`t understand them, but as I can get a little Italian, I believe the lyrics are deeply personal with the theme of life, death and exploring the afterlife. The music is punk/post hardcore, with intense bass melodies, sometimes noise influenced song structures and shouted, sometimes emotionally screamed but not ugly vocals which fit perfectly into this kind of music. The songs are pretty powerful and sounding like slow rolling thunder sometimes. Good record!
Delaware`s trio A Paramount, A Love Supreme delivered their goods in shape of this 4 songs e.p. thanks to Zegema Beach Records. The music of this band can be described as screaming hardcore punk, but still having a lot of melodic guitar riffs and thunderous bass with even some sludge thrown in here and there as I hear it. The songs provide nice darkened atmospheric landscape as if you are traveling through the soundtrack of your tired and broken heart somehow. Of the four songs, the one that somehow stood out to me is Overshot being an anthem of pain and despair and varying from aggressive to calm and back again. This is a beautiful record.
Senza are from Oregon and this record contains 12 songs of crushing, desperate, noisy darkened hardcore punk out with Zegema Beach Records. Okay, maybe it is better to call it screamo or to call it black metal mixed with hardcore I am not certain. All I know is that I like this record very much. Nervous, noisy riffs, blastbeating drums and also some math core parts with energetic beat changes, make this record a keeper. But, what is most important are vocals which are one of the best I have heard in such bands, screaming apocalyptic at the top of the lungs with guttural grunt thrown here and there for good measure. The lyrics deal with personal issues, battling your own demons, hopelessness, sadness, emotional self…This record shows the other side of hardcore, dark side which can also be very beautiful if you find courage to dare look into the abyss. Try this one.
