(review) Omnicidal – ‘The Omnicidalist’ (Non Serviam Records)

Time for Swedish death metal to grace the bloodied pages of this webzine. Omnicidal are hailing from Sweden and this is their debut opus with Non Serviam Records. Although this is their first spawn, members of this band are well known to the scene playing or having played in bands such as Rimfrost, Lake Of Tears, Egonaut and Devilicious. The music of Omnicidal has something just the way I love. Meaning, European school of death metal from early nineties. This means, they deliver a mixture of old school Swedish chainsaw guitar death metal, but to that they add layers of melody, being more into melodic death metal side of things, not unlike all those early Gothenburg death metal bands. If I must compare music of Omnicidal to some other bands it would be a cross between At The Gates and more melodic songs of Dismember. I love how aggression and d-beat tempo songs mix with melancholic guitar hooks and themes, angry, despaired growled vocals, apocalyptic atmosphere and almost a kind of sadness. Lyrically, Omnicide deal with death, Hell, narcissism, fighting your inner self, graveyards and a bit more death. My favorites among these songs are ‘WWD’, ‘Cemetary Scream’ and ‘Narcissistic Abuse’, but the album as a whole is death metal bomb of melody and energy just waiting to be dropped on your metal heads! Excellent!

(review) Death Reich – The Final Plague (Non Serviam Records)

Death Reich are hailing from Sweden, being active in the scene since 2018 and this is their second e.p. opus out with Non Serviam Records.

This one contains four songs plus one Entombed cover. You guessed it, Death Reich are playing old school death metal with no holds barred blast beat aggression, growling vocals, blistering guitar solos and some d beat and subtle melody thrown in here and there only to remind they play Swedish death metal. Yet, the music of Death Reich also leans heavily into American school of death metal, Floridian masters a la Morbid Angel, Deicide come to mind immediately, also mixed with their own Swedish old school sound. Of the songs, my personal favorites are The Creator and also The Night Will Fall. Now, these guys released two e.p.-s, now it the time for full length opus and I am sure it will be a lesson in death metal.
