(review) Booze & Glory-Hurricane

untitled

At, last here is the new Booze & Glory album. After the tumult with recent years line-up change and taking another road with the band and music direction of the newer material, here is the first full length of the new line-up marking ten year anniversary of the band. Many fans turned their backs because the band no longer sounds the same as before, no longer playing skinhead streetpunk, but they rather chose a more melodic and many say they jumped on skatepunk bandwagon creating some sort of bastard child of streetpunk oi, pop punk and skatepunk. I like this album, but it has one problem, the first half of the album has much stronger and greater songs than the second half. Never Again, Live It Up, Ten Years, Ticking Bombs, The Guv´nor are fantastic and I really enjoyed the record until the second half. There are couple of songs that are not so strong there like Three Points, sorry but I think that many punk bands choose to write songs about West Ham United because it is hit to do so. Also, Elton John´s I´m Still Standing is rather boring cover, plus Goodbye and Darkest Nights that pass you by without notice, decent songs, but nothing special. My Heart Is Burning has superb guitar main melody riff, but there is no memorable anthemic chorus, so I always feel that this song is missing something. I know that guys in the band have special relationship to the song Too Soon, but I gave it a chance, believe me, ten times, but it is just too cheesy pop ballad for me. Much respect to the dead and I don´t mean to slander anyone, but this song just doesn´t work for me. So, this fifth album could have been superb record, but it is only decent one.

(review) South Class Veterans-Hell To Pay(Demons Run Amok)

v6rz4

South Class Veterans are relatively new band and this is their debut full length out with Demons Run Amok Entertainment. The band comes from New Jersey and they formed in 2017., but the members are in no way strangers to the punk hardcore scene, growing up going to shows and playing in various bands of that area. South Class Veterans released 4 song e.p. but this is their debut full length album. And what an album! This album contains 10 songs of full blooded American street punk/oi with some hardcore influences. This record reminds of the best days Bruisers, Anti Heroes and similar bands, meaning street smart lyrics, anthemic choruses, harsh yet catchy guitar melodies and these songs just make you wanna pump your fist in the air like crazy. For me, favorite songs on the album are Lies, Shortcomings, Repass and Those Nights, but the whole album is just fantastic piece of streetpunk easy to listen to under cold street lights and smelling the how city concrete and swilling a beer or two.

(record review) THE TAKE-The Take (Demons Run Amok)

The Take are new band consisting of NYHC legends and we can be safe to call them supergroup. This is their debut album and I listened and reviewed it for our zine. The album comes out with Demons Run Amok.

The_Take Cover

Will Shepler used to be drummer for Agnostic Front and Madball. He and Craig Setari (bass played in Sick Of It All, ex AF and others) decided to return streetpunk and oi vibe with old school into music, so Will recruited Scott Roberts(ex Biohazard, Cro-Mags, Bloodclot!…) for the band. Since Craig was busy with Sick Of It All, bass player became Carlos Congote(Royal Hounds, ex Urban Noise, 45 Adapters).

The result is this debut album full of streetpunk/oi hardcore anthems. Vocally, Scott sounds harsh, but also melodic and I love how his voice is sounding and how great it completes the music song structures. At the moments The Take´s music reminds me a bit of legendary Bruisers but with more hardcore attitude and songwriting. There are hymns sure to become streetpunk classics like Elitist, The Skins Are Out Tonight, King Of The World, but also faster more aggressive hardcore stuff like Revolution Now or Dead To Me. This is an awesome album for all of you who love your NYHC done old school style with streetpunk/oi attitude done with brains and balls.
