(record review-hardcore)Coldstare-Bounce Back(WTF Records)

Coldstare have a new album out on WTF Records and I am proud that I was able to listen and review their new record for this zine.

1. COLDSTARE - CD COVER - Bounce Back -

Coldstare are coming from Belgium and they were formed in 2001. The band went on hiatus in 2008.but was reformed in 2015. to become once again a significant force on the European hardcore map. This new album has 10 songs. The music is typical European school of hardcore that has more roots in streetpunk and oi scene than in metal, and it is good so. There are some NYHC influences like AF, early Madball, SOIA but the band has that touch of Right Direction, Only Attitude Counts and similar Euro HC bands have in their music. There are faster old school songs but also some groovy moshing parts making the songs nice piece of modern hardcore that many bands lack nowadays. My favorite songs on this record are Time to prove and Side by Side, true hardcore anthems. This is a great hardcore record!

(record review)SKEPTIC?-“Hornet´s Nest”

Skeptic? are the longest running hardcore punk band from Birmingham, Alabama being on the scene since 2001. This is their third lp and I listened to it and reviewed it for this webzine.

28870227_10155436975368511_2775886113971307062_n

This record contains 12 songs of blistering and energetic hardcore punk, done like not many bands do it nowadays. This is angry, old school fast hardcore punk like time stopped and you are again that kid stomping around in mosh pit and circle pit, proud on every stage dive. Wait, some of us, including me, are still that kids. Angry, shouted vocals, cutting edge guitars, gang backing vocals make this record a keeper! There are some hints of nice back melodies, for example in the awesome “I Don´t Believe”. There are also some guitar solos like in “Contradictions”. If you are  fan of old school hardcore punk like Circle Jerks, Poison Idea, Negative Approach and stuff like that, this will be your new favorite band. This is Alabama´s best kept secret! After listening to the songs like “Bound to Lose” or “Countdown” you will feel like you got stung by hornets. But, you will want more and you will want that desperately.

(record review)FIRST BRAWL-“Turning Point”(Indelirium Records)

First Brawl is another representative of the mighty Italian hardcore scene from Bologna/Modena area and the guys have been around for a while. This is their new record for Indelirium Records and I listened it and reviewed it for this webzine.

The record contains intro plus five songs of modern aggressive hardcore. Although this is modern hardcore with breaks, fast aggressive drumming and some metalish hooks in the song structures, the guys also give respect to the old school and punkrock influences so for me this band sounds like a crossbreed between Madball, SOIA and modern bands like Terror and Hatebreed, but they managed to remain fresh and energetic without losing the hardcore force and touch that flows through me while listening to this record. Of course there are a lot gang back vocals just made for singalong at the gigs and I am sure that these guys sound awesome live. This is good hardcore record! The best song on the record in my opinion is “New Page”.
