(record review)AM Taxi-Shiver By Me

AM Taxi finally released their second album, the much anticipated follow up to their debut We Don’t Stand A Chance from 2010. I listened and reviewed this record for our zine.

AM Taxi are hailing from Chicago, and they play a mixture of melodic punk with sensibility of pop melodies emphasized with awesome melodic voice by the singer Adam Krier. The album contains 11 songs of great melody, that relax you and take you to some other place and dimension, only to uplift you again with great anthemic singalong choruses and give you spirit strength to get through the day, and that is why music is the greatest medication of all, in my opinion. I love almost rockabilly intro in Swim Before You Sink, then turning to beautiful melodic chorus with lots of singalong parts. Also, one of the standouts on the album for me is Shaken Over You being for me probably the best song on this album, but like I wrote before all of them are worth your time and listening. I love this one!

SOUTH BERKELEY “Glass N Sparks” French melodic punk new single and video!!! Album later this year on Krod Records.

The three-piece pop-punk band South Berkeley based in Paris and Nice, France just released this Friday 25th, January another single “Glass N Sparks” after their first single “Tiny Rascals” out in October 2017. Strongly influenced by bands from late 90’s, they’d love to collide old school vibes with more modern and actual influences.

“This is the story of a guy who lost his girlfriend in a car crash and he just can’t get over it,” explains Hubert. “Apart from the descriptive lyrics, we wanted to address the guilt theme and how to cope with this feeling. Everybody has to face the consequences of past choices and accept the fact that we can’t go back in time.”

Hubert also told us about how ‘Glass N Sparks’ came together. “To be honest, I think it’s one of the richest songs of the album. We already had the intro riff and the chorus, which we thought was very cool. After many attempts, we wrote this soft acoustic verse which works well with the rest of the song. The reverse piano adds this dramatic feel, fitting great with lyrics.”

Glass N Sparks’ is the second track from South Berkeley‘s forthcoming debut album – ‘Too Slow’. Although it’s not expected to be released until later this year on Krod Records.

(record review)Press Club-Late Teens

I love Australian underground scene. It is far away on the other side of the globe, but the music unites us in a wonderful way. This time, I listened and reviewed for our zine the debut album by Press Club.

Hailing from Melbourne, Press Club released a strong debut record containing 11 songs. The music they play could be put into melodic pop punk, but they have so much more influences in their music, from indie to even noise. The musicianship is tight and the record is marked by strong vocals, courtesy of singer Natalie. Lyrically, Press Club heads into personal territory, but they also raise some socially aware subjects if you read through the lines. In all, we are dealing here with one hell of a strong debut. Top songs on the record for me: Headwreck(check out the video), Ignorance, Trading Punches.
