(record review)WANK-White Knuckle Ride

Orange County veterans WANK are back in action. After an e.p. in 2016., they released their new full length record and I listened to the music and reviewed the record for our zine.

WANK_Cover_Art

Formed in 1995.at the height of mid nineties melodic punk frenzy, Wank released the debut record and played many shows with almost all the big bands of that time but in 2000.bassist/vocalist Bobby Amodeo fought the disease and the members played in other bands. Now, reunited and stronger than ever, they are back with the new record.

The record contains 11 songs of melodic punkrock and when I say punkrock I mean just that, lovely punkrock, maybe not fast as I love, but indeed with awesome song structures, beautiful choruses and tunes that make you hum them long after you finish listening to the record. There is a reggae influenced punk in We Wanna Rock, heartwarming lyrics in all songs, especially in my favorite It Was You. All the lyrics are personal but I can relate in all the songs with themes like not giving up, love, heartbreak, coping in this world, hope, in fact, these guys remind me a lot of Descendents but maybe less frantic than Milo and crew and more ska in song structures. Won`t Let Go is also one of my personal favorites on this record, besides Salvation, the song guys chose for the single. I love this record. If you are a fan of great, heartfelt punkrock, this one is just the one for you.

(record review)The Draculads-From Parts Unknown

I love The Theatre Zombies, we featured the review of their record and interviewed the band for this zine. This is the new project by Michael and Rob from The Theatre Zombies.

The Draculads record contains 6 songs. If you listened to The Theatre Zombies, you know approximately what to expect. That means, fast melodic and energetic horrorpunk. Well, the music of The Draculads is similar, but even more melodic, catchy and with more pop punk influences than the above mentioned band.

The record is maybe from parts unknown like the title says, but the guys manage to know their way really well with catchy and anthemic horrorpunk tunes like Night Bride or The Presence(my favorite song on the record). What really surprised me even more pleasently is the final song on this record being atmospheric, dark and poppy tune Dark Embrace which was so great that I listened to the song for three times in the row. This is very good record if you like your horrorpunk melodic, anthemic and awesome.

BACK GARDEN LIGHT ‘The Right Side’ New Single on Red Toad Music!

36063573_633231380363507_2160879943054000128_o

Back Garden Light is born in Bordeaux, France in early 2014. Band on the rise in the French alternative scene, their sound is a mix of modern pop punk such as Neck Deep or State Champs and a hardcore/metal side with bands influencing them like Issues or Volumes. The subtle mix between the genres makes Back Garden Light, add a touch of electronic sounds and original samples and you got the BGL sound. The band is taking a break from tour (they did Japan, Russia, UK, EUROPE…) to focus on their new album expected to be released in 2019.

The Right Side speaks of the duality present in any decision that may occur in their lives. Nothing is completely good or completely bad. Any action involves both good and bad consequences. By writing this song, they encourage the listener to be more open-minded, sometimes in an ironic way when they ask the question: “Are you sure you’re on the right side?”

Back Garden Light: “We chose to work again with what made our first clips, Van Espen. It is a simple and effective performance clip in which we wanted to add a touch of originality by incorporating neon effects reminiscent of Berserker’s clip.”
