(record review)PREY DRIVE-Once More With Feeling(Krod Records)

Prey Drive released their new, debut album on Krod Records and I listened and reviewed it for this zine.

The life of Prey Drive has been active, with tours to promote their debut ep Tabula Rasa. Now, their debut album is a logical continuation in the musical development of this, Norwich based UK band. The record contains 10 songs of melodic pop punk/alternative indie music. Do not expect fast songs and moshing parts, but if you like the melodic, heartfelt, sometimes painful, but still warm music, which can take you places and soundscapes, topped with beautiful vocals, this record is then just for you. Top songs for me on this record are: Tokyo, Empty, Star Wars Boy.  7/10

(news)NJ Pop-Punk Band Idle Wave Releasing Self-Titled EP on December 1st; Band Releases New Song “You Caught Me”

IMG_6966

Asbuy Park, NJ pop-punks Idle Wave will release their self-titled EP on December 1st.

Check out the new single “You Caught Me” here: https://youtu.be/NxG_hTtH4Xo. The track was mastered by Scott Hull (Nirvana, Childish Gambino).

Developing their sound in basement shows and the Asbury Park music scene, Idle Wave combines the anthemic garage rock sound of Weezer with the hard-truth lyricism of The Wonder Years. Post grad but not dead yet

Departing from their college project Flammable Animals the boys shifted their sound from what was normally basement recordings to bigger live rooms and louder amps through the help of John Ferrara (Trophy Scars) at Portrait Recording Studios.

Not ones to shy away from touchy subjects, “You Caught Me” puts pressure on the conversation regarding guilt and false accusations, while the EP also hones in on depression and the idea of things being out of your control, but not beyond repair.

Idle Wave takes you to a place of 00’s pop-punk nostalgia while holding up a mirror of self doubt, making for a nostalgic but unmistakably current relatability. Post grad but not dead yet.

(record review)H_NGM_N-I don´t want to go home(Real Ghost Records)

H_ngm_n are Brighton, UK based duo which makes great music and I am very lucky that I was able to listen and review their new record for this zine. Out on Real Ghost Records.

This duo creates power driven music with the sound that someone would call distinctly UK melodic sound, but their powerful pop punk/melodic punkrock melodies are so much more. This record contains 4 heartfilled songs that somehow make you sad and full of sorrow while listening, but at the end you are left with a lot of hope which brings back the smile on your face.

The vocals are just perfect, as are backing vocal harmonies, neither snotty, nor whining, this guys know how to play and how to sing their songs. As one can expect, the lyrics are personal, heartwarming, heartbreaking and I love punkrock which has great amount of emotions behind the music. For me personally, Happy Birthday somehow worked the best, being the song in my opinion and taste slightly above the other three, but in all, this is a great record.

8,5/10
