(record review)Prey Drive-“Tabula Rasa e.p.”(Krod Records)

Prey Drive are hailing from Norwich, UK and they recently signed for the excellent label Krod Records. “Tabula Rasa” is their brand new e.p. and I am happy I reviewed it for this zine.

The e.p. contains 4 songs filled with emotion, melody, beauty, sadness and hope. I love the feelings it intermingles in me while listening to the songs. “Brand new skin” made me hope for the new and better me, while I shed my current skin and walk to the horizon to the better future. Sad, but song full of hope. “More than magic” is a song for which the guys made a video you can watch below and it is more upbeat punky song with some nice guitar hooks, backing vocal harmonies and excellent song structure. The title track made me smile and made me sad at the same time as I caught myself daydreaming and whispering some distant poem from the corners of my brain. Mighty and emotional, this song remains in memory long afterwards listening. The last one “Like Animals” has a sad and a bit weird piano start and later evolves into melodic pop emo punk masterpiece of forlorn desire, wanting, happiness which also brings sadness to the likes of us, whose philosophy some men just can´t understand. Awesome e.p.

(record review)The Playbook-“All I Am Is What You Left Behind”

Australian scene never ceases to amaze me with so many excellent bands that I discover every time I listen to their music. The Playbook is one of such bands. This five members pop punkrock band from Melbourne released recently their new album and it was time for me to listen and review it for this webzine.

cover

The album contains 13 songs of ultramelodic melodic punkrock inspired a lot with pop punk and the album as a whole is very energetic and catchy for your listening pleasure if you are a fan of such music. From the awesome opener “Falling short”, accross the very nice and energetic “Sleep state” to a bit atmospheric and then fast “Regardless/Reach”, this album provides the listener with melody, great lyrics, harmonies, catchy guitar hooks and vocalist´s Laura´s voice sound awesome and strong. In all this record will do you just good on a late Tuesday afternoon to have some punk melodies to sweeten your day.

(record review)The Chromosomes-“Losing Eleven”

The Chromosomes from Livorno, Italy are playing punk since 1993. and remain loyal to the DIY ethics of the underground punk hardcore scene. Respect to the guys who recently delivered their fifth album and I am proud to be able to listen and review it for this zine.

“Losing Eleven” contains 11 tracks of awesome melodic punkrock which is perfect for listening in these days of Spring sunny and warm days. All of the tunes have that excuisite melody that only Italian bands can provide. This band reminds me a lot of Italian bands which I used to listen to in the 90-ies like Derozer for example or This Side Up and I love them for that because the music of The Chromosomes made me nostalgic and brought tear of joy to my eye remembering singing aloud and pogoing to the music of similar bands like 20 years ago. In the time when you think that you and your friends are invincible and nothing can stop you. Nowadays you realize that from the crew that was then, only you remained. But, I digress. The lyrics of the songs are in English and typical for the happier side of punk music. On the whole this album could pass under Ramones Cora music like Teenage Bottlerocket are playing. My favourite songs on this record are “Heavy metal kid”, “Leavin Canada”.
