Dead Dog Summer released a new video for ‘Diamonds and Thorns’!

Croatian post-hardcore band Dead Dog Summer is announcing their collaboration with Geenger Records with the first single and video for ‘Diamonds and Thorns’ from their debut album ‘A Place of Someday’, which will be released in September this year.

The band recorded the material in their own rehearsal space, and Ivan Jakić from the Kut Sobe studio was taking care of the mix and master. The video was shot in the club Prostor in their hometown Čakovec, and Alex Drvenkar, better known as Air Alex, was in charge of filming and editing.

‘Diamonds and Thorns’ is a story about taking things and people for granted and denying the reality we live in, about constantly spinning around and waiting for things in life to improve on their own, and the fear that holds us back from taking the first step to happiness.

Dead Dog Summer is a relatively young band on the Croatian scene, founded in late 2020, and band members are Igor Bistrovic on vocals and guitar, Kreso Zerjav on bass and vocals, and Boris Strahija on drums. The band is currently preparing a promo tour for the fall of 2022, which should cover Croatia and surrounding countries.

The song and the video is available on all streaming platforms via Geenger Records.–> https://geenger.link/deaddogsummer-diamondsandthorns

(review) Billy Talent – Crisis of Faith

Canadian big time post hardcore punks Billy Talent are back with long awaited, several times delayed new album. Besides already known singles such as Forgiveness I+II there are all together ten songs on this one. Billy Talent got some really great innovations in their songwriting like saxophone solo, some keyboards, but it is still that nice melodic punk rock/post hardcore we all grown to love as the years went by. Songs like Reckless Paradise, Judged which are more straightforward punk song or I Beg To Differ are my personal favorites, but ballad The Wolf made my skin crawl with goosebumps, such fantastic melodies and backing vocal harmonies on that one. ForYou is another great example how superb this band is in their songwriting. Musicianship, songwriting, vocals, melodies, everything is just done really really on higher level concerning this record. Awesome new album!

Post hardcore Hoi – Poi Farplane Wind released new single!

Currently split between Copenhagen, Thessaloniki and Stony Brook -New York, Hoi-Poi emerge from the murky waters of the early COVID era with a brand new two-part single, entitled “Uncle Boonmee”.

Sounding as dark and inauspicious as ever, the band unravel the tumult of being locked down, separated and disjointed through unrelentingly heavy and intense riffage. The technicality and experimentation of the material on “Sain’t Adorable” reaches a new high in the 4 minutes & 23 seconds of the single’s total runtime, split between the titular “Uncle Boonmee”and accompanying track, “Tannin”. Lyrically, “Uncle Boonmee” loosely draws inspiration from the 2010 Apichatpong Weerasethakul film, “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives”: through the vicious cycle of life in lockdown and quarantine, a constant swing between hope and despondency, one is able to “recall their past lives”–since they have all started to seem identical. “Tannin” on the other hand, is a disparate prayer, a cry of desperation, heavily influenced by the Book of Job (Chapter 7). The single was recorded, mixed and mastered by Pantelis Benosat True North Sound Artworks in Thessaloniki, during the band’s limited time together over the first few months of 2021, with some parts also recorded at Crisp Studio in Copenhagen by Christian Hjort Jakobsen. It is a standalone offering of material written immediately after the release of the band’s 2020 full-length album “Sain’t Adorable”.
