The good hardworking people at Batcave Records constantly surprise us with excellent new releases, so here is another one from their hellish kitchen! I listened and reviewed The Thirsty Crows new record for our zine.
This band comes from Los Angeles and they are relatively new band on the scene. I must admit that I have never heard of their music prior to this record, but now I am glad that I have and am wickedly grinning after listening to this little piece of darkness. They describe their music as psycrowbilly. This record contains 14 songs of awesome psychobilly with many punkrock and some rockabilly and americana influences in the song structures. If I must compare their music to some bands, it would be the sensibility of Rezurex mixed with ferocious melodic attack of Koffin Kats and the atmosphere of Ghoultown in there somewhere too. I love the singalong almost horrorpunk parts of Heart of Rust. There is a lot of old school rock n roll in the song structure of Good Juice, giving it old school road vibe. For me, the best songs on the album are definitely De La Muerte and especially Anchor˙s Up which was on repeat a couple of times how good it is. This is a great record for everyone who love modern psychobilly punkabilly music. Nice job!
Voodoo Zombie are probably the best known psychobilly band from Chile, they recently became a part of Batcave Records family and released their new record. I listened and reviewed the record for our zine.
The album contains intro plus ten songs. The music of Voodoo Zombie is psychobilly with horrorpunk influences. All of the songs would not be what they are without great voice of the singer Katona Katrina whose trademark voice sounds better than ever before. There are some faster and for me outstanding songs like for example El Mesias, but also slower, seductive rock n roll beauties like Existencia Infernal. I have two versions of that song on this record. Yes, you got that right, all of the lyrics are in Spanish language, so maybe you and I don`t understand all of the stuff these guys are singing enough, but I understand enough Spanish to know what the song titles are about hehe. You will have no problem with the songs like Zombiewalk or Un Mejor Cadillac. This is a great record from a great band. Check it out and also other great stuff at Batcave which is a small label, but has some great releases.
Reverend Horton Heat have been around since 1985.delivering their ferocious mix of psychobilly, rockabilly, punk, country and surf. Now, with renewed strength and mighty Victory Records to support them they have a new album out, which I listened and reviewed for our zine.
The album contains 11 songs. I have never listened to this band prior to this record, now I am ashamed I haven´t payed more attention before. You may call it this, you may call it that, but basically it is above all rock n roll. And a contagious one. The energy this band provides is just infectious and makes your day better and brings back joy and smile upon your face. From the melodies of Sunrise Through The Power Lines to Viva Las Vegas cover that sounds more alive than ever in their version, accross Dont Let Go Of Me and the awesome title track, this band delivered one mighty new rnr record.
