(gig report)TRASH AND BURN Winter Edition-08.12.2018.-Metalac Industrial Bar Čakovec, Croatia

As all of you who read this zine know, Trash and Burn festival of American cars, music, kustom culture is one of our favorite destinations every Summer at the end of June. This event celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, so once again congrats to Neven for persisting so long and making all of this possible.

Couple of years ago, Neven started to organize winter edition of Trash and Burn, promoting the cult pin-up calendar that is the trademark of every year`s Trash and Burn. This winter editions of the festival are a blast, so this year it was held in lovely Metalac Industrial Bar in our hometown.

Upon arriving to the festival site, the first thing we saw were awesome kustom culture makings, especially the great kustom made bikes, courtesy of Sanchez and all the other great mates from Magna Rota BC Slovenia. Also, many other great stuff, like Guerrila Garage, tattoo artists, barber shop, and the people were chilling and having fun around drinking some beer and the whole atmosphere was so nice and relaxed and I loved every second of the time we spent there.

We spent time in the company of friends from Slovenia whom we haven´t seen for some time, so it was nice to chat, laugh and spend some time together. Time passed fast and it was time for the first band to take the stage. CLOCKWORK PSYCHO from Ljubljana, Slovenia played first. I saw this band play live couple of times in the last 5 years, and I haven´t checked them out live since the end of April this year, when they supported Michale Graves in Zagreb, they had superb set there, so I knew we were in for great music.

When the psychobilly punkabilly trio took the stage, the first thing I saw is, that always fascinates me, how much they enjoy the gig, every minute of it. They play ferocious punkabilly and their set included songs from all three of their albums that they released so far. The only thing that lacked is a bit more response from the crowd in front of the stage. I mean, there were enough people there, but when the band plays their hearts and souls out on the stage, the crowd should give back something to the band, not only stand still and watch.

It doesn´t matter, all of us who love this band had a blast when they delivered their mighty one hour set. I love the connection and interplay from all three members, how every one of them sings and the characters they present when on stage. Great show!

Midnight was well behind us when the second band on the tonight´s bill took the stage, EIGHTBOMB from Ljubljana, Slovenia. I never saw those guys play live, I love their earlier songs and they still promote their new album that came out earlier this year. Eightbomb play more rockabilly oriented music, with sometimes faster psychobilly influences in the songs. The guys also played their hearts out, but the crowd remained the same as when the first band played, meaning only clapping, occasional cheering between the songs and nothing more. Nonetheless, Eightbomb played fine mighty one hour set and all of the hits from their releases were there and as I saw them, I think they were satisfied with their gig.

After the live shows, the party continued long into the night with dj-s, and I can only say, congrats Neven, you did it again, we had a blast!

Chilean psychobilly legends Voodoo Zombie recently joined Batcave Records family and dropped the new single Amarte es Peligroso from the upcoming new album Reviresco that will be out on Batcave Records.

The song itself is mid tempo, featuring seducing but haunting melodic vocal lines by the singer Katona Katrina that tend to lull the listener into false calm, but the hard guitar riffs and psychobilly relentlessness then hit us straight in the face but the song leaves us humming the melody the whole day long. Judging by this single, the album is going to be awesome!

The first Chilean Psychobilly band, Voodoo Zombie was formed in 2006 by Katona Katrina (vocals), Lucifer (guitar), Sexbastian (Double bass). In 2007 they released their first work “El demo del Horror”, an EP with 4 songs and a comic by the Argentine cartoonist El Flyman. That same year they released the music video for the song Amor Psycho that currently has more than half a million views. That year they were invited to participate in the Nekrofest in the city of Lima in Peru with an excellent reception from the audience. In February 2008 they toured Brazil playing in Sao Paulo and ended up in the Psychocarnival of the city of Curitiba sharing the stage with Mad Sin. In May of the same year they are invited to make play in Buenos Aires with a very good reception by the Buenos Aires public. In 2008 they released their first LP and the song Manicomio was used by the director Jorge Olguin in the first chilean zombie movie, “Solos.” They also recorded the music video of this same song under the direction of Jorge Olguin. After making multiple appearances in Santiago, Valparaíso, Concepción, Chillan and Antofagasta, in 2009 they were invited to participate in one of the biggest Psychobilly festivals in the world “Hollywood Showdown” in the city of Hollywood, United States. In this festival they played for more than 8,000 attendees and shared the stage with great and legendary bands like The Quakes, Guanabatz, Levi Dexter, Polecats among others. Voodoo Zombie also held a meet and greet at the Red Zone for more than 400 people who came to meet them.

In the year 2010 they are again invited as one of the star numbers to the Psychocarnival of Curitiba Brazil where the reception of the public confirms the fame reached by the band in that country. The last work of the band is the recording of the video clip of the song Pandemia under the direction of Nicolás Salinas, the premiere of the video clip is made in the event center La Batuta with great audience attendance. In December of 2010 Mortis enters the drums and begins to compose and play with the band. In February 2011, the third album named “Santa Muerte” was recorded under the musical production of Jorge Esteban (sound engineer who participated in Ramones’ “Animal Boy” album, among many bands). In April 2011, they traveled to Brazil for the third time and participated in the Virada Cultural Festival together with Misfits, P.O.D., Sepultura, Slim Jim Phantom. VOODOO ZOMBIE plays for 18 thousand spectators. In May 2011 The LP “Santa Muerte” is released with great success In August The band suffers a break and it is necessary to reformulate a change in their path. In April of the year 2012 The band returns with Katona Katrina in the voices, Lucifer Rocker in the Guitar, Dr. F in the double bass and Mortis in the drums. With a successful Show at the Riock and Guitarras de Santiago de Chile. In October 2012 the band released their single “ZombieWalk” supporting the event that takes this name in the city of Santiago de Chile, where they performed with a powerful show to more than 12,000 people, having great success. 2013 The band returns to play in massive events such as La Cumbre del Rock, The Day of the Hose and the Merken Rock Festival. Consolidating his career years.

(record review)Gutter Demons-No God, No Ghost, No Saints

Gutter Demons are back! Their fifth studio album is here and I listened and reviewed it for our zine, so check out their music and read this review!

a4207691165_10

The birth of this evil goes back in 2001.Montreal, Canada and Gutter Demons are considered godfathes of Canadian psychobilly scene, being a great inspiration to bands like Creepshow or The Brains. The new album contains 11 songs of cold, dark and evil atmospheric psychobilly that makes your gut twist and your brain wanting blood, wanting more and wanting it now. Besides psychobilly, the music of Gutter Demons has punk and metal influences. I can even hear some Danzig influence in Devil˙s Hand and some Slayer I heard in Psychotrons. But, don´t get me wrong, this is neither metal nor punkrock, this is great psychobilly with a lot of darkness, blood, guts and horror in lyrics the way it should be, besides also exploring darker side of human psyche. For me, the best songs on this record are the above mentioned Devil˙s Hand turning from metal to fast energetic killing ground, Ghostrider and Cold Call. Good one!

8,5/10
