Calgary’s Short Straps is the latest Alberta band to hop aboard High End Denim Records. With a self-titled EP release slated for a July 19 release, the band has unveiled their first single. “Tomorrow” is available on HED’s bandcamp and all streaming services and showcases the band’s talent for writing hard-hitting, dead ahead punk rock.
The band had this to say about the song: “Continuously seeing relationships fall apart as you mature and move past problems in your life you realize how difficult some have had hardships within their private lives and turmoil with feeling pressure to maintain compelled us to address the state we all conform to and be held to an unattainable standard for relationships.“
With The Punches released first new e.p. being the first new release in nine years with the help of Mutant League Records. There are five songs on this little e.p. and it is just classy. Stoneham Blues is a fast skate punk nineties influenced song with fast verse and slower, more atmospheric chorus, having so sweet melody. Discontent is more of a pop punk song with groove, likeable guitar work and uplifting melody topped with harmonious vocals which are awesome. Lyrically, With The Punches deal more with personal side of life and I think with music like this, it is also one of the reasons why I love punk rock like this one, because I can relate to the lyrics. Mirage is my personal favorite of all five records, but that place is in fact rotating as I listen to this e.p. more, because all of the songs are just great. Listen to this five songs and decide for yourself which one is your favorite.
Ach, Summer is the right time for listening some bands that are melodic, punk rock and bring back smile to your face as you enjoy cold sip of water in the shade watching sunshine doing its job. Basement Gary are from France and they recently released their full length record and it is a blast! There are twelve songs on this one, couple of them being intro and interludes. Music of Basement Gary is new school of pop punk rock, melodic and energetic, but at the same time having enough old school feel in anthemic choruses, harmonies and excellent melodies. There are some fast skate punk excursions like in Let Me Breathe which is short but sweet, but music is mainly punk rock with your typical pop punk tempo. Songs like Like A Millionaire, title song, With The Radio On are sure to become your favorites if you are a fan of such music. This one is a keeper for listening couple of times on a hot but nice Summer day.
