(news-tour update) Wolfrik & The Affect Heuristic Kick Off 3-Week European Tour

0efd971a-0394-466c-8cdd-70798be20ce6

Following the international release of their EP ‘Skeleton City’ on lurid pink vinyl earlier this year, Lockjaw Records’ latest skate-punk proteges Wolfrik are kicking off a 3-week European tour this week. They’ll be joined on the road by Scottish/Belgian melodic hardcore thrashers The Affect Heuristic.

The tour kicks off in Portsmouth and London, before a revered slot at Manchester Punk Festival, then Gloucester and Kent. They’ll then hop on a ferry to take in venues across Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany and Italy, before rounding off the trip with an appearance at SBAM Fest in Austria.  Wolfrik have exploded onto the punk scene, delivering an irresistible concoction of punk, metal and thrash. Complex yet catchy, melodic yet heavy: this band is nothing short of a good time. Their EP ‘Skeleton City’ is charged with fast riffs and galvanizing rock vocals that will instantly grab your attention and take you for a ride.

Wolfrik have previously played with the likes of Protest The Hero, Black Dahlia Murder, Belvedere and A Wilhelm Scream, and have made an instant impression on everyone’s who’s heard them.

The Affect Heuristic are equally ready to take the European skate-punk scene by storm. Taking influence from a diverse range of sources, ranging from classic EpiFat acts to their friends’ bands, from tech metal and pop punk, they have created a unique sound that’s as heavy as it catchy.

They bring to the table a wealth of experience from previous bands, including members of A Hero Build, Terrafraid, No Contest, Fair Do’s, Dead Neck to name a few.

(record review)CLOWNS-Nature/Nurture(Fat Wreck Chords)

Australian hardcore punk sensation Clowns have a new record out with Fat Wreck Chords in April and I listened and reviewed the record for our zine.

346165

I first saw Clowns perform live at a show in Zagreb, Croatia in 2017. I was struck with the ferociousness and primal wild energy of their performance almost feeling the wild and raw side of punkrock slapping me on my face. Now, two years later, their new record is here. Could they capture that spirit on the studio record, I asked myself? Of course! The new on contains 11 songs and first thing that comes to mind upon listening is the increase of various music structures and melody on this record. Don´t get me wrong, it still is their basic garage hardcore punk with all the speed and wild drive, but they managed to incorporate some very nice melodies in the background of the song structures. The musicianship of these guys is on very high level and it looks so easy when you see them playing their stuff, but it definitely is not. I love the melody of Bland Is The New Black, Freezing In The Sun or I Wanna Feel Again. There are also some psychodelic parts like in May I Be Exhumed and of course the calm atmospheric oriental parts of Nurture were a music to my ears. These are highlights of this record for me, but you should get this one, listen and find yours. Great one!

(record review)Various-Sea Shepherd Compilation vol 3(Uncle M Music)

Usually I am not too keen of compilations, cover albums, tribute albums(only Tony Sly tributes are exemption from that rule hehe), but this little record by Uncle M Music is for the good cause benefit compilation for Sea Shepherd for the third time and I listened and reviewed that record for our zine.

860806

The record contains 9 songs that vary in genre and style, mainly staying in some punkrock, melodic punk and ska/reggae style. There are some bands I liked more than others like Satanic Surfers´awesome rendition of Iron Maiden´s classic Sanctuary or French melodic punks Hightower´s version of Suzanne Vega´s Luka, but there are some songs on this record which are just not my cup of tea. But, this record is for the good cause and nice effort so go get your copy.
