(record review)Hillview-The law of averages(Morning Wood Records)

00 - Hillview - The Law of Averages-Digipak

Hillview are relatively new band from Los Angeles, California, this being their debut album. But, they are in no way new regarding the members˙ experiences playing in hardcore punk bands. This band is made of experienced people from Union 13.

The album contains 12 songs of awesome energetic fast paced hardcore punk. I can surely say that the music of Hillview is a sum of the members experience playing in other bands plus what they privately love and listen. Besides being melodic and neckbreaking fast hardcore punk, these guys are not afraid to sail into restless metal waters in many song structures making it one very nice and technically perfect whole. But, not all is in technical song structures, so Hillview´s main advantage are beautiful melodies, great sung vocal lines courtesy of Eddie Carasco, the guitarist for well known Union 13. The vocals, which are very important for me in such bands are just perfect, so are backing vocal harmonies. While I listen to this album, I just realize how awesome it is and how perfect the songs are. If I must name some songs that worked for me above others which are also great, that would be Pictures Of You, The Law Of Averages and Find The Way. Perfect album!

(record review)The Last Days Of Jesus-Oh No…/The World Without Me

TLDOJ are hailing from Bratislava, Slovakia and this is their new release, which I listened and reviewed for our zine.

This single contains 2 songs. The music of TLDOJ is a mixture of graveyard horror goth rock and punkrock, packed in one very pleasent song structure. Oh No…is a dancable gothic punkrock dark hit with the chorus melody that leaves you humming long after the song finishes playing. It kind of reminds me of more punky and more gothic version of Joy Division, don˙t ask me why. The World Without Me was even better, the song sounds cheerful but is in fact very dark and somber with great melody and catchy chorus. This is a great band if you love such music. Check it out!

(record review)THE SOBERS-The Sobers IV

I must admit that I have never heard of The Sobers prior to this record, but now I am so happy that I did after I listened and reviewed their new record for our zine.

FRONT

The Sobers are punkrock band from Marseille, France and their new record contains 13 songs. I was blown away at the start of the album how greasy and dirty it sounds and how easily it evolves into beautiful melody in the first song D.L.D. So, the music these guys play is dirty, but still melodic punk with mainly personal, but also good and smart lyrics. I would definitely love to hear how this material sounds live. Damn! Vocals are harsher sung, but still enough melodic and appealing, backing and harmony vocals are awesome too, so all of you who read my reviews know how important are the vocals for me in such bands. There are some songs that were more outstanding for me, those being: Shitty Halo, It Could Have Been A Better Day, Blood Feud. This is a great album for the fans of rawer, yet melodic punkrock.
