North Carolina rock band Female President have unveiled the music video for their single “Elegy For My Father,” which can be seen below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eusfJR7auI

An energized modern rock trio inspired by the early roots of rock n roll; Female President uses heartfelt grit and simplistic riffs to create a sound all their own. A family of musicians whose individual styles build dynamics and groove to a fever pitch. The trio has just released the music video of ‘Elegy To My Father’. The track is part of the band’s new album ‘Our Year To Grieve’, released in September on all streaming platforms.

Vocalist Dréa Atkins said this about the single:

‘I wrote Elegy To My Father on an acoustic guitar at my parent’s kitchen table, the day after my dad died. I helped arrange for him to be able to die at home instead of the hospital, it was his last wish. As we were getting everything ready, I had to go back to North Carolina for a couple of days, and while I was on the drive back to their home in South Carolina, he passed away at 9:19 pm. Johnny was driving the car when we got the call and as we were turning down the Coosawhatchie highway in the darkness so much music came pouring into my head. I got to sit vigil with my father before they took him, and in those moments, more music, emotion, and memories flooded my mind like ocean waves. It was that song that gave me the courage to finish the writing of the EP.

‘Elegy For My Father’ comes from Female President’s new EP Our Year To Grieve, which is out on digital services right now. The band are currently recording their second EP, which is slated to be released next spring.

Dréa Atkins (of Farewell Albatross), Johnny Moss (of DSR), and Jasper Cunningham (of Vacant Lights) formed the band during the summer of 2020. Dréa’s vocals may be the center piece of each song but Johnny’s fluidly grounding bass lines and Jasper’s expressive drumming create a journey of sounds and emotion in this first album. Singles like ‘Saints Of Heartache’ and ‘Sacred Voyage’ continue to gain recognition on streaming platforms and while they seem like uniquely different feels, they have a common thread that binds them.

Female President created ‘Our Year To Grieve’ with several guest musicians in order to breathe details into each song and the album as a whole is dedicated to the passing of Drea’s father (Jasper’s grandfather). After one year of composing, rehearsing, and recording, the trio of Female President is ecstatic to finally release this extremely personal album to the world.

(review) Weezer – SZNZ: Spring e.p.

Weezer released new e.p., imagined as first in the series of four e.p.-s and it contains 7 songs and it is done in recognizable Weezer style, mixing melodic pop punk, indie and college rock and it is thematically connected from the beginning to an end. Although this band is a bit more commercial than your usual melodic punk rock or pop punk, I always loved their style and catchiness that they brought in their songwriting. This one is no exception, songs like Angels On Vacation, All This Love or Wild At Heart are poppy punk rock renditions of classic music with a touch of melancholy, fine vocal melodies, backing vocal lines, totally catchy choruses and simply written fine and diverse, like watching a theatre Shakespearean show through music and living a drama play. And what is life than drama play? Today you are here, tomorrow there is no more of you. So, live it up the best you can. Nice one.
