(review) Drone Hunter – In Gear

Our Croatian underground scene just thrives and pulsates with great bands and releases and I remember the first time I saw Drone Hunter from neighbouring Varaždin town. It was an open air gig organized by members of MC Miners from Varaždin behind one shopping mall with Đubrivo from Split and some other bands and I immediately fell in love with Drone Hunter´s music. Later on my band played a house gig in Varaždin in a garage of one guy´s home and it was fantastic. I interviewed the guys for this zine and reviewed earlier releases. Now, it is time for a new e.p. This one contains 5 songs. Although Drone Hunter are an instrumental band and I am not an avid fan of bands without vocals, this one is so good that vocals are not needed, the instruments do the talking. Songs are so well written that they tell a story. The music of Drone Hunter is hard to categorize, but I will try. It is a mixture of doom, stoner, sludge, hard rock and atmospheric post rock. But, what brought more joy to this heart are some faster, almost thrash metal parts of the songs Cabin Fever and The Dark Den Brought Me Here. Production on this e.p. is so strong and great, courtesy of Tompa at e-minor studio in Varaždin, this dude does great job with many bands from this scene here up north. Anyway, if you like atmosphere, harsh riffs, aggression, emotions, check out Drone Hunter and support the scene.

Rossometile releases: ‘Desdemona’ new music video!

Desdemona” is the sixth single & video extracted from Italian symphonic metallers Rossometile’s self-titled album “Desdemona”.

Desdemona is a woman’s name meaning “born under an evil star”.

Everyone could identify with Desdemona, but she is also the Desdemona of Shakespeare’s Othello, a woman whose fate is already written, who will end up being killed. The passage therefore also refers to all women victims of violence.

Ilaria Hela Bernardini: vocals

Rosario Runes Reina: guitars

Pasquale Pat Murino: bass

Gennaro Rino Balletta: drums

Bio:

Rossometile was founded in Salerno (Italy) in 1996 at the initiative of the guitarist Rosario Runes Reina and the drummer Gennaro Rino Balletta. The aim was, and is, to create original songs starting from a metal sound, and contaminating it with other genres. Several line-up changes happen through the years and they influence the band discography, leading to albums quite different from one another in terms of style. The current line-up includes the bassist Pasquale Pat Murino, who joined the band in 2010, and the singer Ilaria Hela Bernardini who joined in 2019.

(review) Jim Lindberg – Songs From The Elkhorn (Epitaph)

Jim Lindberg is otherwise more known as a singer for melodic punk hardcore legends Pennywise. While his band released one of the best records in 2018 with their last full length, toured prior to covid shit and delivered fine energetic gigs, Jim also wrote and now released his solo work way different than work with Pennywise.

This album is personal. Very personal. The music has punk rock roots of course, but it is more acoustic and has also trumpet, piano, violin and songwriting that makes your skin crawl with emotions, such as sorrow, depression and battling it, loneliness, hope, friendship, happiness and this is basically great Americana punk rock album. I also feel that Jim s voice can sing more beautiful on this solo album and deliver more fine melodies and soar than Pennywise. I also feel that he opened his heart to us with this one and I can totally relate to some of the songs like Dont Lay Me Down, Youre Not Alone and Good Enough. If you expect hardcore punk, fast and furious you will be disappointed. If you open yourself to the music and words and let the music take you to some other level, this is the right one forya.
