(record review)Nionde Plagan-Reflektion(Zegema Beach Records)

Nionde Plagan are hardcore/screamo/punk band from Sweden and I listened and reviewed for our zine their new release out via Zegema Beach Records

cover

The guys from Jonkoping play their vision of hardcore mixed with screamo and punk influences. That means dissonant, almost sad vibe on this record with a lot of mid tempo atmospheric passages and emotional outbursts of energy. This record contains 8 songs and as I can hear they are all sung in Swedish, so I don´t understand the lyrics, but no matter, sometimes music speaks for itself instead of words. The vocals are harsh, often screamed, but they fit perfectly in noisy, yet melodic guitar work, coupled with smart arrangements in the drum and bass section of the band. This could be very nice experience watching and hearing this band play live. I hope I will one day soon. 15 to 20 years ago, I would discard this music as bullshit thinking only nyhc is real and if you are not tough, you are not into hardcore. But, being tough is living your life the best you can and dealing with problems the best you can and staying alive. So, hardcore is something else. This record is great. Recommended songs: Rex, Maskinerna, Diskrepans.

(record review)TRÖPICAL ICE LAND-D(Zegema Beach Records)

I must admit that I have never heard of this band prior to listening to this record and I am happy I once again discovered a jewel in the underground. I listened and reviewed their record, out with Zegema Beach Records, for our zine.

This record contains 6 songs. The music can be categorized into darkened, at times chaotic hardcore/screamo with a lot of sludge and noise influences. The whole record is very emotional, listening makes you fight your own inner demons that appear in front of your eyelids when you close your eyes. The screaming vocals and dark guitar gritty riffs make you anguished, desperate for release and in the end cathartic but the void is not filled. It can never be filled, it can only be fed, its fire fueled with bands like this. This is an awesome record. If you feel similar to what I felt while listening, go get it. Also, check out other Zegema Beach Records releases, they are awesome and worth totally your attention if you are into this kind of hardcore.

(record review)BIRDS IN ROW-“We already lost the world”(Deathwish Inc)

The European hardcore punk scene gave birth to many excellent bands and labels, so many individuals, promoters, zine makers and I just love that I live in the times when the scene is like the living being, constantly evolving, constantly changing and growing. Today I listened and reviewed the new Birds in row record for this webzine.

Cover

Birds in row are coming from Laval, France, and this new record contains nine new songs of exceptional hardcore punk emotions. These guys deliver their unique special brand of hardcore punk with many screamo, post hardcore, noise and dark pop influences. The vocals are screamed but heartfelt and somehow I managed to relate to the songs and fall into the atmosphere of this album. This is the very varied album considering the style, and it doesn˙t get boring, not one second! For me the highlights of the album are “We vs Us” with almost darkened pop beggining and “I don´t dance” for which you can watch the video below. This music is like darkened art. It sometimes falls hard upon the listener but it also drives you to listen to it again and discover new soundscapes you never heard before. A bit different hardcore but great, diversity is the beauty of our beloved scene.
