(review) Trashed Ambulance – Leapfrog e.p. (Thousand Islands Records)

cover

Trashed Ambulance from Alberta, Canada are in no way strangers to the pages of this zine and I am glad we kicked off 2021 with their new e.p. out digital with Thousand Islands Records.

There are three songs on this e.p. For those who don´t know it yet, Trashed Ambulance play more technical version of epic and fantastic melodic fast skate punk, bordering somewhere between old school nineties melodic punk I love so much and newer technical modern skate punk with fantastic guitar work and songwriting coupled with some of the sweetest harmonies and melodies I have listened in a while. Vocals remind me a bit of mixture between Fat Mike and Chris from Propagandhi, great voice, but maybe only I hear that similarity. On The Mend is fast song, having melancholic line throughout whole song, being my personal favorite on this record. The title song is punk rock song with awesome chorus just made for singing and humming along whole day after you finished listening to the record. Throughout all songs, there is a soft, melancholic, almost sad and nostalgic vibe that I feel while listening, but I love the feeling that music gives me. Delinquent is the last song and it is again song that leaves you only wanting more and more. Can´t wait for the next full length.

(review) Airflip – All For One

cover

Japanese Airflip have a new release containing eight beautiful songs. We already featured this band on pages of this zine. For those who don´t know, these guys play a fine mixture of melodic punk, skate punk and pop punk and I really love their sweet, ultra melodic sound. All song titles are in English, but I can swear that I hear some Japanese in some songs, but maybe it is only me. Vocals are superb, not snotty, but understandable and singing such epic melody lines with awesome backing vocal harmonies to follow the main melody. Musicianship is great and guitar lines are so lovely, I really love it, this record somehow manages to put smile on my face this Sunday morning while I drink my coffee and listen and enjoy this nice little release. Recommended songs as my personal highlights on this record would be: Under The Rainbow, My Last Rebellion and We Promise.

(review) Thousand Oaks – Hell Is Empty (Mud Cake Records)

The good people at Mud Cake Records released this fine latest e.p. by Italian melodic punks Thousand Oaks.

I learned to love this band through my Southamerican brother from another mother Dalin from 69Enfermos who told me they are brilliant. And they certainly are. This six songs offer sheer vicious speed, ferocity and melody of skatepunk/hardcore. What I love is that they are enough technical and have some metallic parts to be rough and enough melody to be emotional and I love it. I love even blast beat drumming on The Bottom of Bottomless Pit being one of my personal favorites on this record along with the title song and Hunt the Haze. As for goes for vocals, they are so sweet, backing vox harmonies are done superbly and musicianship is at fantastic level with all complex songwriting, tempo changes, pumping rich bass lines, impeccable inhuman drumming and superb guitar work. Unfortunately I still haven´t checked these guys live, but will certainly do once this long winter ends and light is back upon the world. Until then have a listen to this great record!
