(review) HATEFUL MONDAY-Mermaiding Over Geneva(Live)

cover

Hateful Monday are no strangers to this zine, we already reviewed their record a while ago. This time, they decided to hit us with their live record. This one was recorded live in their hometown, Geneva, Switzerland, when Hateful Monday opened for Nofx in the Summer of 2019. I am sure that was a dream come true for the guys in the band, so this one was recorded to document that evening. After fantastic Bridge on river Kwai intro, we are in for 8 songs of beautiful melodic punk or should I say skatepunk. This live record was not polished and not mixed and rerecorded like some bands do. All the mistakes, all the rawness, emotion and energy of punkrock show can be felt on the record. The music is fantastic with songs like Dorian Gray Syndrome, Somebody and Carry Me Home being my personal favorites. So, go check this one out. Nice band indeed!

(review) End of Pipe-Mass Hysteria

a0032998329_10

South American scene never ceases to amaze me with so many bands coming out every day and releasing super music to the world. End of Pipe are from Brasil and this is their new record.

There are 10 songs on this record. The music is punkrock, heavily influenced by skatepunk and melodic hardcore. The lyrics are in English and they are pretty good, bordering on the edge of personal and politics. I love the vocals, the singer reminds a lot of Pennywise singer Jim with the colour of the voice. I love more uptempo, faster songs, although this is not your typical skatepunk fast forward band, this is clever and well arranged song rhythm and great emotional melodies in guitar riffs, super vocals and anthemic choruses, topped with smart lyrics, you get a great record. Recommended songs: The Secret, 80 Shots, Memories.

(review) Scott Sellers-Influence

cover

Scott Sellers just keeps delivering and delivering, bombing us away and melting our faces off with his awesome new albums full of melodic punk and fast skatepunk anthems.

This time, he releases the memory box of his influences, like the title of the albums says. This album takes me to my youth, delivering bombs of songs, with so many great covers on this album. There are 10 songs of the bands that influenced Scott in his relentless work discipline in creating great music, namely Strung Out, Face To Face, Slick Shoes, Lagwagon, MxPx, Nofx, Blink 182, Millencolin, No Use For A Name and BIGWIG. Like any other covers album, there are some songs you like more, some you like less, but this one is full of fantastic songs, so thumbs up for all of the songs on it.

8,5/10
