(record review)SYMPHONY OF DISTRACTION/69ENFERMOS-They Came From Faster Space!(Morning Wood Records)

I was really happy when I heard that this split release by Symphony Of Distraction and 69enfermos is coming out via Morning Wood Records. It is finally here and I am happy that I was able to listen and review it for this zine.

cover

Symphony of Distraction side of the record contains 5 songs of fast, melodic and energetic melodic skatepunk with some hardcore influences. These guys are from the upstate New York and I never heard of their music prior to this release, so I am happy to discover their awesome songs. As I understood their lyrics are more on the political side of things and I love Call It Off and Fall From Eden as in my opinion stand out songs, but all five are fast, dramatic and beautiful. I love this band.

69enfermos from Brasil have already been represented in this zine with the review of their last full length and I met Dalin when they toured Europe and saw them play live at Punk Rock Holiday, also did an interview for this zine. These guys are from Brasil, although they originally hail from Columbia and they exist for more than 20 years now. Their side of the record also contains 5 beautiful songs of 90-ies melodic skatepunk with Dalin´s recognizable voice and nice melodies. What I really love about this band how they achieve atmosphere of nostalgia and drama in their song structures, the thing that not many bands manage to do nowadays. In my opinion the best of their songs here are Don´t, Memories. This is a great record.

(record review)Trophy Jump-Live at Kesbri Studios

Trophy Jump come from capitol of Croatia, Zagreb and are part of JeboTon collective. This is their newest release and I listened to the record and wrote a short review for this zine.

cover

This 3 songs were recorded in Bolton, UK during the band˙s first UK tour and they serve as a memorabilia from that tour and also as a teaser for the new material on which the band works right now. What I love about Trophy Jump is that they play no bullshit simple old school melodic skate/punkrock without complicating things. Don`t get me wrong, these guys know how to play and the material is awesome, but they this is not the music for the fans of more technical melodic punk escapades. The vocals kinda remind me of early Fat Mike in some songs, but a little more snotty but in combination with the music they sound good. Of the three tracks, the best one for me is Remete Hills, a nostalgic song about home and the neighbourhood and the city from where you come from. Also, get the first album on Bandcamp and check out qualitiy skatepunk melodic music.

(record review)COMPLETE!-On The Edge

Eastern Europe has a vast and really great underground punk hardcore scene. Complete! are one of the bands from that area, namely Ukraine. I listened and reviewed for our zine their new record that they recently released.

cover

This record contains 5 songs of melodic punkrock with some faster, some more midtempo songs. What I immediately like about this record is that it is done with a lot of emotion and it reminds me musically of some of my favorite bands from the Croatian scene. Fear is one of my favorite songs on the record, being faster and also having some hardcore influenced breakdowns and screamed vocals. On The Edge is more mid tempo punkrock song with straightforward melody and style. The vocalist sounds a bit special, having awesome voice which adds to the dramatic of the songs, this is especially heard in Creaky Bed. I love What We Deserve because it has a nice melody, lyrics and great interplay between fast skatepunk and hardcore breakdowns, sounding tough and melodic at the same time. We Feel is a more mid tempo punkrock song with singalong chorus which adds to the great feel of the record hehe. This is a nice one, give it a try!
