(record review)THE MOR(R)ONS-“Lager”

The punkrock scene in Slovenia is not very large, but it is rather compact with awesome bands, some labels and promoters doing fantastic job with organizing great gigs and festivals!

cover

The Mor(r)ons are coming from Kranj area and this is their third album. I listened to the record and reviewed it for this webzine. I must admit that I was blown away by the sound of this record and the music it contains. There is a total of 14 anthems on this record and each and every one of them makes me wish that I wrote them. The music is straightforward fast and faster melodic punkrock, skatepunk fastcore. Mamma mia, I can only imagine how this sounds live because I didn´t check this band live yet, but I consider it a must! The lyrics are in English language and the vocals sometimes reminded me of early Fat Mike but that is only my opinion and you will maybe hear it differently. This guys really know how to play and write great songs. There are couple of my favorites in this record. First “Etuda” being for me the best song on the record. “Lose Yourself” makes me think about how music saves, it is not just a proverb, but thousand times proven truth. The third one is “Sixth Mass Extinction Cycle” because of the awesome melody in the song which made me listen to it over and over again! Great album!

(record review)D-AMBULANTES-“D-Ambulantes”

Time for some South American melodic skatepunk here on the pages of this webzine. I love how miles and miles don˙t mean shit and borders mean even less when music is considered. D-Ambulantes is a melodic punk/skatepunk band from Cali, Colombia formed in 2017. and I listened and reviewed their record for this webzine.

TIRO_FINAL

The record contains 7 songs of melodic and mostly fast punk with a lot of melody. The lyrics are in Spanish, so I don` t understand what the guys are singing about, but nonetheless this is great record. “Descontrol” starts as your usual melodic skatepunk song but at chorus turns into great song full of energy. By the time “Humanidad” hits me I realize that we are dealing with the band who really can handle their music instruments well. “No Nos Intimidas” is for me the personal favorite on this record, heard before but still there is never enough of such songs! “No Vuelvas” has a great singalong chorus, if only I knew Spanish, so I could sing it hehe. “8am” is an okay song, but somehow did not work for me. “Cada Quien” is a more hardcore song, with somehow shouted vocals turning into beautiful melody when the chorus strikes in. “Deambulantes” is a classic punkrock anthem heard also thousand times before but still works out fine for me. Nice album!

(record review)CHASER-“Sound the Sirens”(Dying Scene Records/Effervescence Records)

Wow! This is all I can say after listening to the new CHASER album which is a masterpiece of melodic skate hardcore punk. I listened to this new album that comes out via Dying Scene Records and Effervescence Records and reviewed it for this webzine.

Chaser - Sound The Sirens - Front Cover ARTWORK

These Southern California punk scene veterans made a masterpiece, a monstrous record filled with highly melodic and energetic bombs! The album contains 11 songs one better from the other. Everything starts with short but flammable “The Uprising” which prepares us for the ride with it´s speed and catchy melody. “At What Cost” is a song that was fast, that was anthemic, but nothing could prepare me for “Nightmares”, for me the best song on the album, so catchy, so melodic, so beautiful.  Singer Mike LeDonne sounds so awesome, he is now one of my favorite singers besides Tony Sly and Zoli Teglas. The backing vocal harmonies are also done with so much care and they sound just freakin great. The lyrics are political, but also personal and uplifting and they just make you go further and never give in. “The Show” is also an awesome song, made as a tribute to all of the punk gigs and festivals when you listened to your favorite bands under the starry sky with your brothers and sisters, your punk family! This record made me believe in such things as hope, unity and brotherhood again! “Bet it All” reminded me of No Use For A Name so much that it brought tears of joy to my eyes when I knew that Tony Sly´s legacy lives in all of us. “A Million Reasons” is an ode to never giving up with a lot of sing along parts just made for live singing with the band. Those were my highlights of the album but all of the songs are excellent! This album is a wonder, this album is one of the best melodic punk albums I have heard in years!
