(record review)A SECOND PLAN-“Defy Gravity”(Tichiboy Records)

A Second Plan are hailing from Venice, California and this is their new record out on Tichiboy. I am glad that I had the chance to review this one.

cover

Many bands are just plain copycats today and they only tried to copy paste their favourite bands and albums. That is not the case with A Second Plan. There are 13 songs on this album and the music this band plays is a mixture of nostalgic ride along the 90-ies skatepunk road. I totally managed to feel the bond to all the bands that I listened when I was a kid in the 90-ies. On the other hand, A Second Plan manages to sound modern with excellent guitar work and melodic hardcore song structures. There are also some almost metal, Propagandhi-esque influences that I could hear while listening to this album. But, it still manages to maintain the melodrama, happiness, energy, warmth, love and everything else that´s reason why skatepunk is besides horrorpunk the best music in the world! Top songs:”Sirens”, “Vultures” and “Heads you win, tails I lose”.

(record review)BUSSIERES-“Sunny Side Up e.p.”(Thousand Islands Records)

Bussieres are coming from Montreal, Canada and this is their second e.p. out via Thousand Islands Records and it is awesome. I had the privilege to listen and review it for this webzine.

Sunny Side Up streaming platforms

The e.p. contains 6 songs of beautiful melodic skatepunk. The music is very energetic and uplifting with fast paced drumming and technical yet catchy and melodic song structures and I loved every single one of the songs on this record. The lyrics are great, as I love to say, nice mix of personal and political and this guys have their hearts and minds in the right places. I will mention the songs that were somehow highlights of this record in my opinion and for my taste above excellent. Those are “Prestige Worldwide” and “Talladega Knights”. Excellent record, so go and get it and drop a couple of words to the band and to the label I am sure it would mean a great deal to them!

(record review)TRASHED AMBULANCE-“Flashes of Competence”(Thousand Islands Records)

Trashed Ambulance are coming from Canada, Alberta.  “Flashes of Competence” is their sophomore album that came out via Thousand Islands Records and I had privilege to hear it and review it for this zine!

Flashes Of Competence front

The album contains 12 songs of excellent fast paced melodic skatepunk with a lot of hardcore punk influences. The musicianship on this record is very tight and all the songs sound very uplifting, very energetic and they bring back a smile upon your tired punk face when you listen to the record. If I must draw some comparisons, it all reminds me a lot of early Nofx even in vocal department, which is not a bad thing because Trashed Ambulance doesn´t sound like anyone´s clone, quite the contrary. The other band this music reminds me of is Croatian band One Step Away. For me the hightlights of this album and the best songs are “Relics”, and especially “Swarm” with anthemic singalong which I am sure sounds awesome live. As I understand the lyrics are a fine mix of personal and political issues. The guitar melodies are very catchy in combination with fast paced drumming and the vocal and back vocal harmonies just kick ass! I really love this record, give it a try and get it! Show some love to the guys, it will mean a lot I am sure!
