Sun-0-Bathers are fast punkrcok from Leeuwarden, Netherlands. This band is new to the scene being founded in 2017. I am really glad being able to review this, their debut e.p. in my webzine.
The record contains 5 tracks plus intro/outro.
After the nice intro, the mayhem starts. This is just the music that I love. Fast, old school skatepunk hardcore with a lot of old school nineties influences. The only thing that bothered me somehow are the vocals sounding somewhat muffled and low and partly unrecognizable in some parts. These guys play their shit with heart, with soul and minds in the right place and this is an awesome release for the debut e.p. I just imagine how the full length with fresh material will sound, certainly more better than this. For me the best song on this record is for sure “Need Some More” with old school Circle Jerks vibe that made me nostalgic. I also loved an hommage to legendary Scott Radinsky. If I must compare, these guys reminded me a bit of old Spermbirds, being rowdy, but fresh and made for moshing and pogoing and going wild with other sweaty kids in the pit next to you.
I really don´t know much about Drinking Boys And Girls Choir, apart from that they come from South Korea. Being from there, they have the honour to be the first Korean band featured on the pages of this zine.
This record contains 18 songs in about 43 minutes of time, and I personally think that this is too much for one record. With that, also the quality of the song differs from excellent melodic skatepunk tracks to some pop punk and K-pop boring songs. For me the absolute highlights of the album are “Red shift”, “On the street” and “National Police shit”. The production is okay but I would love some more power in the guitars but it is an okay punk record. The dual boy/girl vocals also nicely fit in and create an interplay in the song structures. But, being this long and with so many songs, this album just doesn´t manage to keep me concentrated and keep my attention for the duration. Okay album.
