Slovenian Alo!Stari released their full length album finally! I saw these guys play live in Ljubljana when they supported Lagwagon 2019 and they delivered awesome show. Although it is relatively new band in the Slovenian scene, these guys from Maribor are in no way new to the scene because they played in many bands and projects. The music of Alo!Stari is nineties influenced great melodic skatepunk sounding like all those old school Epitaph and Fat Wreck bands that I grew up with. But, they retained great dose of originality because the lyrics are in Slovenian and also in Styrian dialect and are about personal stuff but relate to current situation in this region. Themes are oppression, getting old, trying to leave and survive in this situation, fun, love and I can relate to all of the songs. Vocals are cool, neither too mellow, nor too harsh and musicianship, harmonies and melodies make you wanna listen to this record over and over again. My personal favorites are: Isto Ko Prej, Nea Vem Kam, Zalubo and Valovi. This is for sure one of the best releases that came out this year.
Slovenian hardcore heavyweights are back with new release to commemorate this shitty year. These two songs are done like they should be and we expect from this hardcore outfit. So, Laid to Rest play metalized modern hardcore with respectful nod of head to old school influences. Of the two songs, I like Rock Bottom a bit more, because it is faster and more hardcore punk and has almost Earth Crisis like ending of the song. Also I can totally relate to the lyrics of the song in this shitty year that almost buried most of us. 4270 is the second song, featuring Rok Rupnik from Within Destruction and this song is an ode to Jesenice hardcore scene from where this band comes from. We have already featured Reach on the pages of this zine. For those who don˙t know, these guys are coming from Pomurje region, Slovenia and play hardcore. This is their brand new e.p. This new record contains 6 songs of modern urban, streetsmart hardcore with a lot of breakdowns, two steps, singalongs in gang vocal shouted choruses and good lyrics. This is not your idiotic macho I kill you, you kill me back hardcore, no, on the contrary Reach has nice and lyrics with a message to which all of us can relate to. The music is very aggressive, made for moshing, stage diving, pogoing and delivering all the hardcore energy we all love so much. The lyrics deal with battling some personal demons, friendship, the scene and trying to survive in this modern, fast paced world. The vocals remind me a bit of Rick Ta Life in some parts. The guys also have some awesome guests on this record, for example Gregor from Risk It, Dario from In-Sane and Matic from Laid To Rest. So, go support your scene and listen to some quality hardcore.
