(tv series) Obi-Wan Kenobi: Star Wars series just never disappoint me!

When Disney took over Star Wars movies and other projects I was a sceptic and turned out that I was right. First, they just wiped out the book story line turning it into name Star Wars Legends and the new books they called New Canon and since I am an avid collector and fan of SW expanded universe books, the newer books that I read until now are just inferior compared to the older SW novels and storyline.

Then came the movies. Episode VII was decent and I enjoyed it wishing to see how the story will evolve further. Rogue One is excellent, dark war movie which is just fantastic for me, Solo sucked big time and episode VIII was okay, but finale, Episode IX was just a thing that made me want to cry what they did to my beloved SW. When Solo failed big time, fortunately they turned more to tv, Mandalorian was just fantastic, both seasons, also Book of Boba Fett was a rollercoaster of happiness for me.

I was eager to see what will they do with Obi-Wan Kenobi, six episode series which was supposed to bring back Ewan McGregor to the role of Obi-Wan and how they will connect it to story in Episode IV. Well, they did a fantastic job.

The story happens ten years after Order 66 and events of Jedi Purge and rise of Empire led by Darth Sidious and tragic events that led to end of brotherhood between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, two of best Jedi in the galaxy. Obi-Wan now lives as a recluse on Tattooine, watching from afar over young Luke, his uncle Owen and aunt Beru. He is bittered, disillusioned and doesn´t want to mix in the fight anymore. But, then Empire´s Inquisitor Reva kidnaps young Leia from Alderaan and Bail Organa(Jimmy Smits from the movies) convinces Obi to return to one last fight and help save Leia, not knowing it is a trap for him.

Well, then the action and rollercoaster ride starts. New bad guys, Grand Inquisitor whom we also saw in cartoon SW Rebels series, Reva and others are spooky and eerie, but you imagine, the main bad guy and star of this series besides Obi is Darth Vader with none other than Hayden Christensen repeating the role, a bit older without mask as Anakin, but imposing as never before seen brutal and killing machine, Vader similar to the one portrayed in Rogue One. There are couple of epic fights between Obi and Vader, but we all know their destinies, so we are not so worried for them both, but we learn some great written details that were missing link between the past and movies. Actors and characters are superb, especially little Vivien Lyra Blair as ten year old Leia reminding so much of Carrie Fisher that my eyes became wet remembering her. Also, Moses Ingram as Inquisitor Reva is a great character, I heard that maybe she will get her own series. Scenes of SW fights, worlds, story, everything in this one is enough to make old SW heart beat faster with joy and your eyes wet at some moments wishing for more and more. Thank you sir, thank you Mr Lucas for bringing this fantasy to us, we will never be able to say to you how much we owe you for creating this world and universe to us legions of fans.

(book) Star Wars: Phasma

Besides punk hardcore, my all time love is Star Wars. Besides movies and tv shows, there is whole world of expanded universe through books that I discovered as I started reading and collecting those books.

I must say that I am more of a fan regarding books and SW timeline that came out before Disney took over SW universum. Those books are now regarded as Star Wars Legends and books that are now out as Disney took over are called New Canon. As movie, books that come out are inferior to old ones. I don´t say that as grizzled fart which only mutters to himself, I am a fan who has also all new movies originals dvds in my collection proudly besides old ones and gave them many chances, but I must say, only Rogue One is in my opinion worth SW greatness of all new movies.

Captain Phasma is one of not enough explored characters of First Order and this book is a novel about her, how she came to be Captain Phasma, from her life as Skyre on nuclear devastated wasteland planet, to meeting General Hux Senior and trying to survive the wasteland to go to space and fulfill her destiny. This book has the same problem as all SW newer books. Parts of it are interesting and make you wanna read more and more and then comes last third which is too confusing, too fast like author wanted to finish it by all means as soon as possible. Characters are too shallow, too little explained and explored. Action scenes are okay, but could have been better and the ending leaves more open questions for sequel and explanations of some missing parts. Unfortunately, this one could have been so much better.

I saw the new Star Wars movie-warning:spoilers ahead!!!

After the relatively different but not bad Episode VII: The Force Awakens and excellent expanded universe Rogue One movie, the time came for the Episode VIII:The Last Jedi and I was eager to see what will happen next in the Skywalker saga.

Two weeks ago I went to the cinema to see the movie and I am not disappointed. The people who read this zine know that I am big SW universe fan, having read more than fifty books from the expanded universe, whether the new cannon as Disney named it or the old SW legends universe. What bother me that they took a completely new road with the story not paying mind to the book storyline, where Chewbacca died a long time ago, where the Solos have three kids, the twins Jacen and Jaina and young Anakin. In the books Luke Skywalker and his wife Mara Jade Skywalker also have a son called Ben and there is no First Order, no supreme leader Snoke and least of all no spoiled emo turned evil Kylo Ren aka Ben Solo! For this boycott of the Skywalker book storyline I will forever hold grudge to Disney and Lucasfilm.

This episode continues right after the last one, with Rey reaches out to Luke Skywalker on the deserted island. Gotta admit that Mark Hamill looks like a tired hobo in the movie doesnt he? He is also depressed and tries all the time to be wise, but we dont know really why is he so angry. Meanwhile, First Order tries to kill the remnants of the Resistance led by Leia Organa. Here I must say one more thing thats been bothering since the last episode. What is Resistance? After the Rebels dethroned the Empire they formed the New Republic. What happened to that? We have seen the Starkiller destroy the Republic in Force Awakens, but what republic? Anyone who expects to have answers about forming of First Order and Snoke will be left with no answers. It was very heartbreaking to see Carrie Fisher as Leia for the last time. But her character has a decent farewell in the movie.

Laura Dern was decent, the ex stormtrooper Finn too. BB8 was more funny and reminded me of R2D2 very much. The action scenes were nicely done and time passed quickly watching the movie. Kylo Ren aka Ben Solo still has some of the most irritating facial expressions while he is angry and tries to be mean and evil. Snoke was right, he will never be another Vader. The movie is a mix of Return of the Jedi(see confrontation Snoke-Rey-Kylo in the throne room) and Empire Strikes Back(the attack on the Resistance base, planet similar to Hoth). The motto of this movie is that you have to kill the old and in with the new. I like that motto and where Disney is heading with this. Now comes the young Han Solo movie and then the closure in Episode IX. Who will live, he will tell!
