(review) Minus Youth – Sun

Minus Youth are hailing from Stuttgart, Germany and this is their new e.p. This one contains four songs of metallic hardcore, not unlike All Out War, Earth Crisis, but with some street punk roots touches like Madball. I really enjoyed this one so much. Lately, I really enjoy these newer releases of hardcore scene and bands coming out, so many and I am glad after being thirty years in the scene that this is still thriving and pumping scene alive and well and will never die. Music of Minus Youth is aggressive, up tempo and also thrash metal influenced in guitar parts but still hardcore to the bone. My personal favorite on this little e.p. is Sun, title song containing breaks and speed, just what any great hardcore anthem should have. Vocals are harsh, backing gang vocals too, but in all there are no death metal singing masked in hardcore, this is a great hardcore shouter on mic here. Also, song I must highlight is Tens to Thirties. Great e.p. and great hardcore band.

(review)Bike Age-Steps I Take Images I Fake(Twisted Chords)

cover

Bike Age are from Stuttgart, Germany and they released their new record with Twisted Chords. There are 10 song on the record, one being No Use For A Name cover of Exit. The music of Bike Age is nothing new, nothing complicated, but that is the beauty of this band and this album. The guys play old school 90-is melodic skatepunk in the vein of all those old Cali Fat Wreck and Epitaph early bands like NUFAN, Nofx, Bad Religion, Lagwagon and others. That means beautiful vocals and backing vocal harmonies, catchy and nice melodic guitar riffs, fast drumming mixed with some mid tempo punkrock and of course, anthemic singalong choruses just made to sing along and hum all day long. Recommended songs that I somehow think are best on the album are Duty, 99%.

(record review) Minus Youth-No Generation

Minus Youth are releasing their debut full length. I listened and reviewed the record for our zine.

MINUS-YOUTH_NO-GENERATION_Cover_HiRes-300dpi-RGB

Formed at the end of 2016. these guys from Stuttgart are in no way strangers on the hardcore scene cause they have been playing in other bands prior to this one. Minus Youth plays hardcore, European school, leaning heavily on 90-ies hardcore like Rykers, Brightside, Right Direction but also to the NYHC school of hardcore, the singer sounds in many songs like Lou Koller from Sick Of It All. The music is aggressive street hardcore, yet remaining catchy in some parts. I love the faster, more straight forward stuff like Nothing, but also slower and more Earth Crisis-like rolling songs, for example Homeaway. This is hardcore that we used to call new school when we were kids in the 90-ies, now that is old school as my friend likes to say. Anyway, this record is a must for all you fans of metalic hardcore punk with street vibe and get this one, for sure you will mosh to the songs of Minus Youth.
