(record review)OLDFASHIONED IDEAS-Still Worth Fighting For

Oldfashioned Ideas from Sweden have been around for ten years now. They recently released their brand new album, so I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

This trio plays OI/Streetpunk in it`s best form, meaning rough and melodic street anthems with a lot of heart, gang vocals singalong hymnic choruses and great lyrics. There are some wicked streetpunk melodic song structures and vocals just enough to be nice and rough, yet singing great.  Some albums just give me goosebumps on my skin and put a wicked smile back on my face and this album is one of such records. I love songs like No Go Down, I Know or This Is My Time, but also the rest of the material on this record reminds me why is punk/hardcore scene so beautiful and why I love this scene so much for more than 25 years now. I recommend you guys, go get this album, if you are a fan of music like this, you just won˙t be sorry.

(record review)BASH BROTHERS-Downhearted(Thousand Islands Records)

Sweden, besides having plenty metal bands, was also very fertile ground for hardcore punk bands. Do you remember Bash Brothers? We already featured these melodic hardcore punks from Eksjo, Sweden in our zine when we reviewed their first record. Now, I am lucky being able to listen and review for our zine the new, second full length out on Thousand Islands Records.

The new album features 12 songs of epic, high energy fueled fast melodic hardcore punk. Compared to the firs album, it is a great progress for these guys, being more technical, even more musically tight and having great guitar hooks, even very metalic vibes in some songs but yet retaining the punk hardcore edge we all love so much. The vocals are awesome, shouted and screamed yet at the same time melodic sung with great backing vocal harmonies. I can not escape the comparison to Satanic Surfers, but Bash Brothers are more hard and brutal sounding although both bands have some similarities, I would say that Bash Brothers have more hardcore sounding vibe. There are some guest performances on this record, John Harcus from Pmx, Niklas Karlsson from Orbit Culture and Vince Fournier from Our Darkest Days deliver a little support with their voices to the awesome songs. It is so hard for me to say which songs are best to me from this energetic bomb of an album, but I will try, here it is: Dark Passenger, Twist Your Tongue and Green Street. Judging by this record, 2019.started really great.

SATANIC SURFERS release new single SANCTUARY(Iron Maiden cover) for SEA SHEPHERD COMPILATION Vol.3

SATANIC SURFERS made a cover of the metal-classic SANTUARY from Iron Maiden!

The song is the second presingle of the upcoming Sea Shepherd Compiltation Vol.3 which will be release as a limited vinyl-edition on 29.03.2019 by Uncle M Music.
It´s contains a bunch of famous interational and national bands from the Punk/Indie-Scene covering a song of their own choise – Metal-Classics, cheesy 90´s anthems or current pop-hits. Some with a litlle wink and some in an quite emotional style. But all in a unique new version.
The whole project works in cooperation and for the support of Sea Shepherd and all proceeds will also be donated to Sea Shepherd Germany.
Here is a little qoute of what the Satanic Surfers think about this project and Sea Shepherd in general: “There’s no meat in our backstage, and there should be no nets in our seas, let alone dumped trash nets that pollute the earth and trap fishes leaving them to die for no good at all. We respect Sea Shepherd’s tremendous work and do what we can to support them as a band.”
