(review) Rest Easy – Sick Day e.p. (Mutant League Records)

044632

Rest Easy is new band from Vancouver, Canada, but members of the band have been in the scene for a while playing in Daggermouth and Shook Ones.

This is their debut e.p. out with Mutant League Records and it contains four songs. Music of Rest Easy is fast and melodic hardcore punk, skate punk, with some angry shouting vocals, some melodic singing, fitting perfectly to song structures. My personal favorite is Headaches being a perfect mixture of hardcore and melodic punk, just the way I love. The other song that I must mention as being my highlight on this album is Bad Idea, mid tempo punk rock song with dual vocal lines, melancholic guitar work and vibe that made me sad and melancholic and brought up emotions in me that only this music can. This is a very strong debut being one of my favorite pieces of music that I listened in the last couple of weeks, so I am so stoked for the full length when it comes out.

(review) Blacked Out-Wasted Breath(Thousand Islands Records)

wasted breath front

Blacked Out are from Vancouver and this is their new e.p. out with Thousand Islands Records. There are five songs on this e.p. The music of this band is fast energetic hardcore punk, leaning more on melodic side of things, more like skatepunk. But, they are enough technical to satisfy fans of technical skatepunk, yet leaning enough in the nineties old school genre waters, to satisfy also fans of old school melodic punk with some metal thrown here and there in the song structures. For me the best songs on this e.p. that I recommend are I Don˙t Know and Tribalism. Nice one indeed!

Vancouver pop-punk five-piece Chief State has released the first single off their forthcoming album titled “Tough Love,” which will be released in early 2020.

The song was recorded in Vancouver by Tim Creviston (Spiritbox, Misery Signals, Parting Ways).

Chief State’s guitarist Nik Pang says, “Deciduous is a song about the transition in seasons from summer into fall and winter. As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, a lot of people, myself included, tend to isolate themselves and get into a really negative headspace. The song uses the metaphor of deciduous and evergreen trees to explain how some really struggle through the colder months, while others remain unchanged. As much as the song is about struggling with seasonal depression, it still keeps a relatively positive outlook, because after all, it never stays cold forever.”
