With a new label home of Victory Records, Stockholm rock quintet LIKE TORCHES have separated themselves from Sweden’s music scene since their debut, 2013’s Keep Your Head High. Burning like their namesake, these five emotionally charged individuals are set to release Loves And Losses, later this fall. The proof is in the first single released, ‘Silver Lines.’

Preview The New Track ‘Silver Lines.’

“We have never met a label as enthusiastic and excited about LIKE TORCHES as Victory, so we are all intrigued to see what we can accomplish together,” explains vocalist Jonathan Karn. “It is an honor to be working with a label that has released so many of the legendary records we grew up listening to.”

Yellowcard vocalist Ryan Key took lead as producer as the Swedish outfit packed up and took to the streets of Nashville to create their upcoming album Loves And Losses. Key interjects, “It’s hard to explain the excitement hearing your work completed like this, so proud of these dudes and these songs.” On the recording of the band’s first material in over two years, Karn explains, “We wanted to combat our normal surroundings, and the culture of ‘Music City’ helped us be more creative and filled us with so much inspiration so we could find our perfect sound. We literally explored new territories and that allowed us to feel the highs and lows of being in a band, hence the name Loves And Losses.”

Echoing that sentiment on the new track ‘Silver Lines,’ Karn admits, “Sometimes you feel like everything around you is falling apart. Nothing goes the way you planned, and you’re doing everything you can to find some kind of light in the end of the tunnel. It’s like the chorus reads, ‘Somewhere high in a golden sky, memories, broken dreams, burning in the light.’ Somewhere out there, there’s an answer. You just have to find it.”

LIKE TORCHES, rounded out by second vocalist and guitarist Daniel Karn, guitarist Erik Thyr, bassist Zakarias Faleij and drummer Jimmy Brunkvist, have shared their music globally with such artists as Taking Back Sunday, Memphis May Fire, Hit The Lights and many others across Europe, Japan, US and Australia, and will keep their fire burning throughout 2018. Karn promises fans, “To everyone that has supported us through this journey: We took our time on this one. We wanted to make it right. And we did. The record came out sounding just the way we hoped and dreamed it would. Thank you so much for the patience and see you on the road soon!”

(record review)Dead Girls Academy-“Alchemy”(Victory Records)

The story behind Dead Girls Academy is an exceptional one. It is a story about endurance, spite, learning to live again and to cope and it is very inspirational and makes you wanna get out in the morning and shout out to life, being alive and enjoying the music. I listened and reviewed this record for this webzine and it was very emotional for me. The record is out on Victory Records.

Michael Orlando lived in Los Angeles, had a band, toured and lived a rock ´n´roll lifestyle what many young people in his years only could desire. Then, a highway bus accident took his life. He died but lived. Brief death was an experience that marked him.

Three years of endurance, reconstructive surgery went by, with only one dream, to play again. Michael and his best friend Ronnie Radke (Falling In Reverse) formed new band, Dead Girls Academy and made an album. This is it. The album contains 11 songs of darkened melodic punkrock, vampiric punkrock if you want it that way. Growing up in Hollywood, Michael Orlando saw a lot of weird stuff, so there is no lack of inspiration lyricwise. Also, the album is in my opinion one great catharsis and showdown with his inner demons and all it took to endure what he endured. I enjoyed this album so much! From “I´ll find a way” to “I can´t feel a thing” this is so dark but uplifting. The mixture of melody, punkrock energy, gothic darkness and glammy sweat is what makes this album special. I always listen to the whole record when I do a review for this webzine and listening to this record was a unique experience and Michael´s work and this band and music is a continuing inspiration for me and this webzine.

(new video)BROADSIDE DEBUT NEW VIDEO “SUMMER STAINED” European Tour Starts Tonight, US Warped Tour Dates Follow

BROADSIDE have released a new video for “Summer Stained,” taken from the bands highly-acclaimed sophomore album Paradise. The heart-tugging clip takes an internal look at the bands relationships as seen through the eyes of their fans. The video also commemorates their life on tour, which starts tonight across Europe before creating more memories on this summer’s Vans Warped Tour.

Asking fans to submit photos of their BROADSIDE memories, vocalist Ollie Baxxter explains, “With the progression of social media and everybody having a camera in their pocket, a lot of moments are captured but unseen. We always meet so many people on tour and being able to relive those encounters again without the fear of ‘I hope I’m more than just a photograph’ was really inspirational. The fact that thousands of photos poured in shows that people really care about us (as we do them). The love is more than appreciated.”

“After any tour, we get back home and the train stops,” Baxxter expands on the rollercoaster of life on the road. “All that validation and purpose of waking up every day to perform music just stops. I would lie in bed feeling so lonely because I felt like I didn’t have a purpose and no one knew who I was in this big city. Validation went to my head but also the purpose of being an entertainer had vanished. We would look to those photos that we were tagged in and just reminisce on the interactions we were given and feel human again. “Summer Stained” is a reflection on the loneliness of giving all of yourself away in your music in hopes that you will fill the hole that is in your heart.”

BROADSIDE return to the stage as their European tour kicks off today in Germany with several dates of the Galaxy Camp Festival, followed by shows with Trash Boat and the Slam Dunk Festival across the UK. The band wrap up the tour with a trio of headlining shows which have been sold out for weeks, then return to the US to prepare for their appearance on the final Vans Warped Tour.

Baxxter adds, “We are over the moon excited for Slam Dunk! Some of the greatest bands of all time will be playing and it’s a blessing just to be in their presence. As far as the sold-out show in London, we cannot wait to make that the best damn show of our career! The moment when found out it was sold out, we felt alive and the fire in our minds and hearts burned any doubt away. I’ve always said on stage ‘We are here today because you told somebody about us and cared enough to buy a ticket or a T-shirt – so thank you,’ and I mean that. We cannot wait to see you!”
