(record review)THE BIG BAD-Dressed For A Funeral+The Big Bad(e.p.)

The Big Bad have been on the scene for 15 years now. Since 2004.although the lineup has changed, the constant line that keeps the band strong besides making excellent music is the frontman Zackula Von Nasty. This record is celebration of 15 years gore soaked, eerie horrorpunk hardcore and I listened and reviewed it for our zine.

Hailing from the haunted hills of West Virginia, these guys have been inspired from the start of the band with the folklore tales to evolve their horrorpunk hardcore in a way of making fist pumping in the air singalong anthems and melodic verse lines transforming to hymnic choruses with awesome vocals coupled with beautiful backing vocal harmonies. Not to forget fast and energetic hardcore punk guitar hooks and thunderous drumming.

This record contains 19 songs. It serves as a document of early times of The Big Bad, meaning the band´s debut full length Dressed For A Funeral, the e.p. The Big Bad plus unreleased songs and live songs to make a great record for the fans of the band and those that will become the fans by listening to this one. My favorite songs are Ghoul Girl with doo wop influences. Everyone who follows me knows how much I love doo wop. Dead End Drive In and Spit On Your Grave are also my favorites of the record. I love how this early songs show all the rawness but also melodic side of the band and proves once again that horrorpunk is best music on this planet.

(record review)Ghost Road-“Appalachian Apparitions”

Ghost Road was founded in 2015.and they hail from the Morgantown area, West Virginia. Sounds familiar? Well, it should, West Virginia is famous for my favourite  horrorpunk band ever besided The Misfits, namely Blitzkid.

When Blitzkid disbanded in 2012.I thought that no one is able to fill in their shoes. The beauty of the horrorpunk scene is its relatively small existence and variety of styles and influences. So, everyone who says that horrorpunk bands are only Misfits clones can fuck off! I am off the topic, and the theme is this album. The record contains 12 excellent upbeat and energetic horrorpunk tracks filled with aggression, melody, drama and creepiness, as is needed in horrorpunk. I was at once blown away by the opener “Wolves and Man” all to the “Coming Home” and when I listened to that one, I swore that I am the fan of this band until the grave and beyond. Musically, the guys remind a bit of early Blitzkid. Vocals are very important in this genre, and the vocalists Michael and Jeff have a great couple of voices, not sounding like anyone´s clones. “Let it Bleed” gave me goosebumps on my skin being so wonderful. This record is the reason why I love horrorpunk so much and while there are such bands as Ghost Road horrorpunk will remain underground, secluded and followed by beautiful fiendettes and fiends.
