Antiquus Scriptum were founded in 1998. and these Portuguese black/pagan metal band released this compilation album through This Winter Will Last Forever and it was about time to review it for this zine.
They play very fast, very noisy and brutal black metal mixed with pagan, folk and thrash metal influences. I must admit that I have never heard of this band prior to this album and I like their brutal but also disturbed vision of metal. This is no holds barred war with no prisoners. The keyboard parts somehow add to the dark and merciless darkness of the material and I am afraid that all of you who like your black metal symphonic and melodic will not find comfort in this disonant and eerie soundtrack to the apocalypse. This album contains 8 anthems to past times, darkness, antireligion and death. I loved this record because it rose darkness in me that lingers somewhere deep like a beast in deep slumber, but never ceases to exist through the strange aeons!
It took a long time to be released, but it is finally here. The debut Mental Strike record!
This band comes from Laško area, Slovenia. They play old school skatepunk with a lot of old school hardcore influences. When I saw them play live in Lendava, Slovenia couple of years ago, the reminded me a lot of Gorilla Biscuits not so musically but they somehow have the same energy as GB have. This album contains 9 songs with all of the lyrics in English language. The themes are some great mix of personal and political issues. The song structures, especially guitars also have some metallic influences and this album is the lesson how to play modern but old school hardcore punk, not to sound to mellow or like a clone. In my opinion the absolute highlights of this album are “Start Today” and “My Final Resolution”.
Finnish dark metallers Mustan Kuun Lapsetrelease their new single “Ikaros”.
The new MKL single presents the band’s new drummer Kalle Takalo. Kalle joined after the original drummer Mikko Hautala stepped aside in Spring 2017. Musically ‘Ikaros’ continues along the path that the previous album ‘Saatto’ (2017) started and also gives a hint about the direction that the band is heading.
Lyrical themes revolve around death and the desperation of life. It might be impossible to prevent that the higher you aim to achieve, the harder you will finally fall. The single is out on Inverse Records.
