(record review)THIS MEANS WAR-Heartstrings(Demons Run Amok/Pirates Press)

This Means War is a new band and this is their debut album, but they are in no way new guys in the scene, they played in bands like Discipline, Convict, Backfire!…I listened and reviewed their new record for our zine.

The record contains 11 songs of melodic streetpunk with some hardcore influences. That means strong guitars, galloping drum beat, melodies, anthemic gang vocal choruses and lyrics about friendship, struggle, keeping the pride, streets and similar oi/streetpunk/hardcore themes. The songs that are outstanding for me are Why We Fight, old school punks song with great melodic line. There are lots of old school oi vibes on this record like in Pressure that reminded me of Cock Sparrer a lot. Hardcore vibes are here with songs like Hang ˙em High. For me, the real gems on this record are I Found The One and Forever, great streetpunk anthems. This is a great piece of record, new streetpunk for 21st century with respect to the roots and old school. 8/10

(record review)CLOSED SPEECH-Rookies

Closed Speech are haling from Italy, city of Rome and I listened and reviewed their new record for our zine.

Italy has one of the best punkrock hardcore scenes in Europe and  I am always glad to discover new bands. Closed Speech play melodic punkrock with hardcore influences and their new record contains intro plus 14 songs. Their music leans more on hardcore roots with a nod of respect to the historical value of Italian and Roma hardcore, but also sounding fresh and strong for the 21st century. The lyrics are mostly personal, but I also noticed some political and humour issues between the lines, and these guys have their hearts and minds in the right places. The musicianship is tight, and the vocals are beautiful, spiteful and punk sounding but melodic, backing vocals also nicely done. The songs that are the best in my opinion: Same Blood(check out the video guys made for this song), Write This Song, No Words No Name.

(record review)Ça tire!-Melting Punk

Long time passed that we reviewed some compilation record in our zine. Now is the time for compilation by small diy label from Canada Ça tire! We listened and reviewed it for our zine.

The record contains 20 songs and I can say for sure that I didn´t listen to any of the songs and bands apart from Greg Rekus prior to putting my paws on this record. Shame on me! Acoustic punk and folk punk is usually not on my playlist when I listen to the music on everyday basis, but I love to listen that stuff from time to time. As it˙s usually the case with compilations, some songs are better, some less good. I must mention the songs by Greg Rekus, Drunken Dogs, North Alone and Frank Custeau being outstanding from the rest of the material on this record. This is worth your support, so you can download the record for free, but at least write to them and tell them you like it and I am sure they will appreciate your support.
