(review) Lovecraft-Dark Ages(PCT Musique)

PCT Musique, a label from Montreal, Canada always surprises me with their great releases. How do they find all those excellent bands?

This time, it is Lovecraft from south west of France, formed in 2017. How not to listen to punk band which carries the name of my favorite horror writer and one of my all time favorites for reading? I expected something melodic, yet dark and I got it. There is kinda mistic feeling in the music of these guys. This record offers ten songs of melodic punkrock, with English speaking lyrics, at times noisy, at times poppy and at times very, very atmospheric. I love Last Day Of My Youth, showing straightforward punkrock, and then turning into something darker with that wicked and catchy guitar melody of the title track which is absolutely one of my highlights of this record. There are no lyrics enclosed but as I understand, they are personal and inspired by the nineties, nature, love and similar themes. Sometimes the songs of this album make me sad, but that is okay. This is a very strong debut album.

(new single) WISHING WELL – NEW SINGLE -DO OR DIE-OUT TODAY

ei

“DO OR DIE” is the first single release off Wishing Well’s third album “DO OR DIE”, to be released on March13th by Inverse Records.

Listen to the single:
“DO OR DIE” is a fast opening song and the title track of the album and it features all Wishing Well’s trademark elements: Dark, raspy vocals by Rafael Castillo, roaring distorted Hammond organ by Arto Teppo, thundering drums by Juha Kivikanto, punchy and bold bass lines by Rick Becker and raw yet melodic guitars by Anssi Korkiakoski.
The song was written by Anssi Korkiakoski who says: “The song is about what we feel at the moment as a band. The lyrics speak for itself. We do this seriously tongue-in-cheek, we know what we doing and it’s time to make things happen.”
The video was shot at On The Rocks Club in Helsinki and it features notorious rock manager Mike “Major” Mondeo, who wanted the band to organize an audition in order to sign a management deal with his management company. No contract was signed and the band has not heard from the manager since.
The forthcoming album is Wishing Well’s third and the second to feature Chilean Rafael Castillo on vocals. Their previous albums “Chasing Rainbows” (2016) and “Rat Race” (2018), both on Inverse Records, got very positive reaction among hard rock and metal fans around the world and the band toured Finland with Doogie White, Alcatrazz and Tank plus played festivals and clubs.
Wishing Well will play album release gig at On The Rocks, Helsinki, on 20 March. In April the band will play a mini tour in Finland with UK based TANK.

(review) Jodie Faster-Blame Yourself

cover

Wow! This is the only thing that I can say after listening to new Jodie Faster record. My friend Karlo told me last Summer about these guys, but somehow they went  under my radar until now. Jodie Faster are from Lille, France and this new release contains 17 songs. The music of Jodie Faster is old school fast hardcore with screaming shouting vocals and fast drumming, coupled with great hardcore songs with some melodic catchy parts here and there. Add to that great lyrics and you get really super band and I can only imagine how this band sounds live, pure fuckin hardcore energy to feed on. Songs like Punk Police, Gloucester`s Finest and Your Gods=Outta My Way, also No Gain Just Pain are my personal favorites. This is fast hardcore old school the way I love it.
