(review) Out in Style-Letters Never Sent

cover

Out in Style are Brasilian/Canadian melodic hardcore punk band and this is their second full length album that recently came out.

What do we get here? We have twelve songs of superb emotional driven melodic hardcore punk, somehow melancholic when listening, and it suits me just fine that way. Kinda sad vibe in the song structures, with some acoustic more atmospheric parts like for example awesome When Night Falls Fast at the beginning of the song, evolving into my personal favorite on the record. The lyrics are more personal and I can totally relate to them. The vocals are great, backing vocal harmonies too, and it is important for such bands to have great vocal lines added to already melodic guitar work. Other songs that I recommend as favorites are Time Is Passing By, Broken Inside and Today Is The Past. Superb stuff if you are into melodic, emotional hardcore punk. 9/10

(review) Primitive Blast-Animalistic

Primitive Blast are from Sydney, Australia and play a bit rawer and more primitive version of hardcore punk. On this record you can find 6 songs which speak of despair, fighting your inner demons, trying to cope with and survive in this modern world and false progress when most of the kids are just slaves to technological gadgets and similar merry themes.

The music is mostly fast paced with some downtuned and more moshing parts like in awesome PSA, the music and vocals are very angry and fit perfectly into the song structures. I love this one. Angry, yet personal, but through the lines you can read all the anguish and rage about political injustice going on in the world right now. Superb stuff!

No more rates for the records in this zine, I think hardcore punk webzine should not give rates, I will try only to describe with words what I felt while listening to each record.

(movie) Violent Cop(1989.)-another jewel in the crown of Japanese movies.

Violent Cop(1989.) is a directorial and acting debut of Japanese legend Takeshi Kitano. This movie makes Clint Eastwood and his Dirty Harry little baby compared to police inspector Azuma(Kitano), who does not speak many words, but deals with everything in special and violent way, not making any compromises in delivering what he thinks is right, but also dancing permanently at some edge of lawful behavior and having problems with his boss. When he and his colleagues investigate drug related murder, his best friend, also policeman kills himself. Azuma takes matter in his own hands to avenge his best buddy and deliver justice. This is very violent movie which has some really nice death scenes of graphic gore, like baseball bat in the skull, teenager girl shot in the head, bloody murder. But, it is also poetic story of one individual different than others, an individual who does what he thinks is right and justice in the corrupt system and therefore I will not spoil it to you further, only that you watch this movie until its poetic and beautiful ending. Great one by the legend!
