(fanzine) Virus is another excellent zine from our scene.

I was told by my friend Emil that there is another great physical fanzine from our scene worth reading. Virus is a fanzine done by Batko, the drummer for Disbaja, who lives in Zagreb and also organizes gigs there. First thing is how this zine is beautifully done. Really, from front cover across the whole zine, all black, with great layout and easy to read. When I say read, there are tons of material to read in there. I love how Batko mixes personal and political into one undivided whole, with also great dose of sarcasm and black humor thrown in there. There are columns, among them touching column done by Puljko from Namet, about his fight with leukemia and I was so struck when I read that one. Really, health is the most important thing we must hold onto. All other shit that seems hard and fucked up is nothing compared to health and heavy diseases. Also, there are interesting interviews with Aligrindtor, Doomtown Records, Smrt Razuma and Celetoids, also Left To Starve which was most interesting to read. Couple of reviews, soundtrack for the end of the world composed of radio friendly hits. I think which one of those would be mine soundtrack for apocalypse, superb gig reports and also columns about life in quarantine, dealing with it, dealing with state oppression, thoughts about freedom, love, capitalism. Also, an interesting piece done by Ivan, guitarist of Disbaja, about punks having a kid or kids. I read this zine in one afternoon, how great this one is. I havent read something so good since Fejer˙s Mentalna Smrt zines. But, this one left me hungry for more. Can not wait for new issue. Order your copy at:

Burnt Tapes announce new single & upcoming EP ‘Grower’

9d31940f-ca81-43c4-ad66-16a1edc3f3d5

Getitgotitgood is the second single that will feature in Burnt Tapes upcoming emotionally reflective and environmentally focussed EP, Grower. The single is out August 7th.

The single comes with a music video by Luigi Sibona, filmed at The Fighting Cocks in Kingston.

Instead of releasing their upcoming EP on a CD or vinyl record, the 4 tracks will be available alongside a small Beech tree that can be planted, in efforts to help the local environment and climate change. The EP will be out on September 4th.

As guitarist, Phil, explains: “We wanted to do something a little different, more sustainable and planet-friendly. Something you can plant and nurture, and watch grow. Don’t get me wrong, we love a good band t-shirt! But we need more green spaces in order to tackle the climate emergency, and hopefully, we can raise more awareness about this through this initiative. And most of all provide you with some wholesome family fun”.

The pandemic may have put a halt on the plans of Burnt Tapes US/UK and EU festival and tours, this year, but this hasn’t stopped them pushing on with new music, social activism and sustainability.

“Everyone’s been affected in very different ways by Corona. We are fortunate to have been healthy during this time, and we have tried to use it to reflect on ourselves and the world around us.” said Phil.

Alongside the upcoming EP, Burnt Tapes also released some acoustic songs for the Black Minds Matter charity.

Grower and the Beech Tree package will be available for pre-order on the Lockjaw Records from the 7th August.

Burnt Tapes are a four-piece melodic punk rock band based in London, UK, known for creating their own unique brand of ‘regret punk’. Inspired by emotive heavy-hitters like Iron Chic and Polar Bear Club, their 2017 EP Alterations was a 6-track gruff-punk gem, loaded with hooks and tattoo-worthy lyrical twists.

Burnt Tapes met as teenagers in Athens, Greece; serendipitously migrating to London before forming the band in 2014. Their Wasted History demo was self-released that year.

Since then, they have played over 100 shows across Europe, sharing stages with the likes of Red City Radio, Pkew Pkew Pkew, The Penske File, Nothington and The Bombpops, as well as exciting audiences at Manchester Punk Festival, Washed Out Fest and Rebellion Festival, to name just a few. In 2017, Burnt Tapes released Alterations via Lockjaw Records and Umlaut Records. They’ve followed it in 2019 with their debut album Never Better.
