MÜ – Revenge (Modern Illusion Records)

The good people at Modern Illusion Records deliver amazing records and I am really proud for being able to support this label and they keep the scene flame burning and alight! This time, they surprised me with MÜ, band from Milwaukee/Wisconsin. Their record “Revenge” is now available in our store and limited to 50 tapes.

This record contains 6 short but sweet songs done just the way I like it, meaning old school hardcore not unlike Minor Threat and similar bands, raw with a bit of melody and shouted vocals, leaning more on punk side of things than on metal. I love all of the songs, but if I must choose some as highlights of this record, that would be Prophet, Cop Song and Life´s Game.

The music also has some of youth crew vibe in some of the songs, but also a bit chaotic hardcore added in like in weird parts of Cop Song making it very interesting to listen with sirens, bass parts, machine gun burst drums turning into raw punk hardcore. Nice one indeed!

So, go write a word or two to Chris and Modern Illusion Records crew, I am sure they will appreciate it a lot! Also, support the cause and hardcore worldwide and check out their releases, because they are worth it.

(review) Sabertooth – Of Shadows Yet To Come

Ach, how good it feels when you remember that hardcore scene is alive and well, thriving and pulsing with awesome bands and message they carry keeping the cause alive and fires alight.

This time, some Euro hardcore coming your way with Sabertooth from France. This is their new e.p. with 4 songs. I love it. The music is fast harsh hardcore, ingrained more in street punk roots than in metal yet retaining some nineties metal influenced mosh parts in the song structures. Boomerang is a superb song about something all of us experienced, betrayal, disappointment with friends in the scene. One Heartbeat Away is a song that is my personal favorite on this record. Anthemic old school hardcore guitar work, super lyrics about heartbreak and being able to forgive makes this song a mandatory hardcore anthem. Wrecking Crew is a stomping behemoth of a song, most nineties and mosh influenced of all four, talking about energy that is present in all of us at the hardcore show. It is the hardest song on this record, but it has a gentle melody hidden beneath in some song parts. The title song is also epic, journey into fighting inner demons, being able to protect loved ones and after all being energetic hardcore bomb that makes you want more of this band after this e.p. finishes. This one has nice singalong parts and I would just love to hear all these songs live because I am sure this band is a bomb on stage and I am really glad that I was able to present their music in this zine.

Write them a word or two if you like their music, I am sure they will appreciate it. Support the scene and the cause of hardcore worldwide.

(review) Red City Radio – Paradise (Pure Noise Records)

cover

Red City Radio are back with new full length album with Pure Noise Records. This Oklahoma based band grew steady and big fan base throughout the world with their vision of punk rock.

This new record contains twelve songs of beautiful melodic punk rock done from the heart and soul, delivering rebellion, but also emotions and heartache, just like our beloved genre should. The songs are mainly mid tempo punk rock with lots of nice and sweet guitar work and harmonies in vocal lines and backing vocals just the way I love it. I am usually more fan of faster skatepunk, but this album suits me just fine. I grew goosebumps on my skin on that melody of 100 000 Candles and Did You Know, those two being my personal favorites on this record besides the title song too, but all of the songs fit just perfectly to the picture of the whole concept around this record, which takes you to some other listening soundscape and offers rescue and delivery from all the misery and depression of this year which is one of the worst ever. But, as long as bands like this one deliver such fine records, we will be able to survive because the scene will not die and it will only grow stronger in ties and bonds after we all get together again and feed fire to the flames. For sure, one of the best punk rock records this year.
