(review) Ignite – Ignite (Century Media)

When long time singer Zoli Teglas announced that he is leaving Ignite, I thought there is no future for this band. Although Zoli wasn´t original singer, his stint in Ignite marked the band with greatest success in the scene marking them as legends of melodic hardcore punk with one of the best singers out there. But, the band started to bring up posts with mysterious new voice and there it is. After a seven inch, Eli Santana was coronated as new king, new voice and singer of this Orange County band, leaving bassist Brett Rasmussen last original Ignite member.

Jump to present, new album is out with ten songs. Besides already known Anti Complicity Anthem, The River, On The Ropes that were singles from this album prior to release, there are seven more songs with This Day sounding more like old school Call On My Brothers era Ignite, whole vibe and songwriting is return to more hardcore punk waters retaining melody but not somewhat indie and more commercial vibe of band´s last two albums. Eli Santana is not trying to sound like Zoli, but keeping his own style and he sounds fantastic, songs like written for his throat and I await eagerly to catch them live in Europe in this line-up. I watched Ignite five times, yet am eager to hear Eli live. Lyrics still deal with political situation, coping with life, sounding somewhat melancholic like phenomenal On The Ropes and I can safely say that Ignite sounds strong, reborn and hardcore, hence the simple name of the album, being somehow reborn once again like phoenix from the ashes of old. Call Of The Dogs, Enemy or The House Is Burning are sure to become your favorites. The Butcher In Me sounds more similar to songs from recent albums and I think it for me least likeable song on this album, although the album as a whole has no fillers, all of the ten songs are just great.

So, welcome back Ignite! May you release more superb albums!

Vreid released black metal cover of Paint It Black!

In April of 2020, Norwegian black ‘n roll brigade VREID were invited by the Norwegian Nobel Peace Center and the Inferno Festival to perform a cover song of their choosing as a part of the “Songs that change the world” series. Unfortunately, this illustrious event was swiped off the earth by the plague that has pestered the world the last years. Nevertheless, being true rock soldiers, VREID decided to continue this creative path and recorded the song, which has never been released. Now, the band is finally sharing their The song the band decided to interpret is the rock anthem “Paint it Black” by the The Rolling Stones as the band regards this track among one of the most important pioneer songs for rock n´ roll, and a blueprint from where this tree of heavy music culture has grown into a many headed beast for 7 decades now. This song and video are a celebration of the fantastic creativity that started in the 1960s and have been developed by so many great artists and bands ever since. VREID has incorporated their humble respect to many of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest musicians.

JUNCTION 28 signing statement:We at Junction 28 are immensely proud to be sharing the next stage in our journey with WormHoleDeath. Partnering with this record label is a massive step forwards and we are incredibly excited for the bright future ahead of us.”
“Before You Drown” is our first EP, conceived largely during the initial stages of lockdown. The project shifts our sound into a new spectrum, with a distinct focus on dynamic song-writing, electronic sound-design and atmosphere, all the while making sure to retain our penchant for hefty riffs and soaring melodies. Lyrically we turned our eyes inwards, reflecting on the personal issues and mental struggles that have permeated our everyday lives over the past year in a way we hope is both relatable and incisive. Bands such as Linkin Park, Bring Me the Horizon, Deftones and Don Broco were always in our minds during the writing process, though we also drew heavy inspiration from a wide sphere of genre influences, including alternative rock, heavy metal, electronica, synth-wave, and modern pop.

JUNCTION 28 is a band hailing from Essex in the UK. Aiming to combine huge riffs, dense electronics and soaring vocals into one cohesive aural assault, the group is now ready to show its new face to the world. Formed in 2018 by bassist Dick Phantom (Kieron Spears), it wasn’t long before the band began ploughing through venues across Essex and Greater London. Other Members include drummer Ben Woodwards, guitarist Gary Digby, synth player Kit Sylvester and lead singer Craig Keeling. Their first EP, “Before You Drown” has been recorded at ‘Hidden Track’ Studios in Folkestone with producer Oz Craggs, the project weaves together the new and the familiar, its five tracks speak to a plethora of topics drawn from the band member’s own lives and personal struggles. Junction 28 is managed by UAC management and will be appearing in music venues in the very near future.
